Polishing the air

Does polishing the air with a carbon filiter and fan work well for removing all odor with no ducting or venting? I have a potable A/C in my room with a 1000watt light and am worried if the A/C will blow out odor?

I think they generally refer to this is "scrubbing".. I don't have experience with this myself, but I would imagine there would be some stink.
