plants going dormant in winter months in zone 3

Okay so I've heard talk of wild growing hemp and or bud plants doing their yearly cycle n then dropping the leaves/buds/seeds and going into a dormant state for the coold weather months. I read that cannabis is considered an annual tho? Anybody ever heard about this at all or seenn it or is it even possible because cannabis is technically a softwood correct? Any information would be sweet. DDM

In zone 3 no way in my opinion. I have heard of warmer areas being able to cut off buds, letting plant re veg and going for a 2nd harvest. But never actually seen anyone post this with pics or proof. In short my guess is no

If it freezes, the plant will die, not go dormant and will not regrow. Any growth from outdoor plants in zones where it freezes is from seeds dropped from pollinated plants the previous season.
