Plant Diagnosis Help

Hi there,
This is my first post on this forum. I have lurked for a while reading other peoples posts and usually havent required to post as theres so much information already.

Anyways Im requiring some help with a diagnosis of my plant. Im growing indoors, in soil/perlite mix. The soil was meant to have some nutes in for the first month or 2 of growth. I know its not good to use such soil but its all I had, and now I regret it. The strain is strawberry haze and I have just one 20w CFL on the plant. It is around 3 weeks into vegetation.

Growth has been slow, but I had rapid growth on week 3 until i suddenly had a growth stunt. The plant has not grown in the last 4 days or so and the leaves were pointing straight up for a few days. I tried adding another light to my set up but the heat soared upto around 35, so this is not an option for the moment until I manage to sufficiently ventilate the system.

The lower 3 part leaves at the bottom are dying off, but I think this is normal. There are small yellow spots appearing on the oldest, biggest fan leaf and the tips of most are turning yellow/brown. The plant seems to be in a bad state.


Can anyone try and recognize the problem from the pictures?
I think it maybe a nute deficiency but id rather be sure before I go showering it with nutes. The last picture is of it about 4/5 days ago before all this started happening.

what light are you using and how close ? do you need to feed them nutes at such early stage ? what soil did you use ?

Im using CFL, only 20W. As i mentioned, when I added another 20W CFL the temperature was too high, so im waiting until I find a method of keeping the grow box cool before increasing the light amount. The light is about 4 inches away.

Im not feeding them any nutes at the moment, but the compost stated it had sufficient nutrients for upto 8 weeks of growth.

Its just standard compost for smaller plants.

Hmm, sorry to hear about your little lady not doing well. You're correct, I believe, about those bottom leaves - it looks like the lowest leaves are dying simply because the light can't reach them. As for the yellowing/spotting it could be a number of nutrient deficiencies, or it could be as simple as an imbalanced pH (which causes the plant to absorb less nutrients).

Have you/do you monitor the soil/water pH? If your pH is fine I would start to introduce a very small amount of nutrients, diluted heavily with water, and giver her a few days to recover.

Also, I'm definitely not an expert, but with the way her leaves are reaching upward it's almost like she's not getting enough light. I understand you can't add another lightbulb, and I wouldn't try to get the current CFL any closer to that plant, so my advice would be to look into Low Stress Training, or LSTing. It's a fairly simple method, great for smaller grows, and allows your plant(s) to receive the maximum amount of light coverage evenly.

Ive done a pH check with a pH kit and it seems to be alright, around 6.0-7.0. So I think Ill add a very small amount of nutrients this evening.

Ive read lots on LST and was planning on doing it but thought it was not at the right stage to start it yet. Ill wait to see if she recovers then I think Ill start some training.

UPDATE!
I bought some plant fertiliser for food and vegetable plants. Its 30-10-20. I diluted it to half the amount stated on the instructions.
She's really loving the additional nutes, and im getting some good growth.

From the pictures you can see the plant is growing very bunched together. Is this normal for a sativa strain?
Also when should I start LST? Does she look ready yet?

looks indica dominate and quite honestly looks like you got roots coming out the top of ya souil that could be one of ya probs bro tryu topping off with a lil soil get a lil of the stem under make it a little better support bro just an observation bud!!!PEACE!+rep if helpful

the more dense the better as far as i know. the closer the branches or nodes the more buds

Thanks for the replies.

Its not roots poking out its just some peat moss in the soil which I never mixed in very well. Your right about more soil though, Im going to replant into more soil within the next few days.

The strain is arjans strawberry haze, which is sativa right?
