PH levels increase back to 7.4 within 10 minuites every time i adjust

im not too shure what to do, i am using distilled water and my ph meter is calibrated and everytime i adjust my ph to 5.8 it will increase back to 7.0 to 7.4 within 10 to 20 minuites everytime. am i doing something wrong here i dont understand the problem help is appreciated

... I always use a the liquid ph test kit to reassure the meter is on point. Do you have one? I've had so many problems with meters, I don't trust them for shit.

use a ph down you can find it at a pet store

one of 2 things...

your not giving it time to mix... so the 5.8 you get is bs, its jsut a small portion of the water

or, you are giving it time to mix, but you have another chamber with water somweher that is coming back and raising it


or... you have bacteria... i forget which way they make it go... but if you have a bad bacteria outbreak, ive heard it will continuously swing your ph out of wack because their biproduct is acidic or basic, i forget which...

so the only way to go if thats the issue is to kill the bacteria, using h2o2, aka peroxide.

how warm is your res? if its over 65f, then you prob have bacteria of some sort living in your water

I always give er a good shake and let it sit for 10-15 min then test and readjust if necessary
