Ok, so i didnt think PH of my water was that important to growing. but i thought id see what it is anyways because i dont want to mess this 2nd grow up. I managed to grow a plant before but it took a few months more than i expected. so i thought id test the PH, could that of caused my slow growth?

anyways so i got a PH kit from my local pet shop (ment to be used to test aquariums.) the PH meter only reads 6.4 to 8.4.. i got a reading of 7.6 - 8.0 so i guess thats well too high.
I cant find anything to bring the PH down in my local area.. is there anything that i could use at home that could bring down the level?

is it really important as well?

I have a few links in my thread about plant problems and how to fix them. I screwed up the ph on mine and almost killed them, they pulled through and I just took some clones yesterday. Way to much ph up is the thread and try the first link I posted. Scan down to the ph section and it list household items that can adjust it both directions. Good luck.......

using household products to balance your ph is not reccomended. You will have ph fluctuations because those items are not very stable. I would suggest you go back to the pet store and buy a ph kit it will come with ph up - Sodium Hydroxide. ph down - phosphoric acid. and indicator solution - bromothymol blue. test tube and color chart. If they dont carry that which they should and most likely do, then go buy some ph test strips at walmart. You can buy ph up and down on ebay or any online hydroshop. For a short term solution you can use household ingredients but for long term not a good idea.

cider vinegar or lemon juice, add a dash at a time, I find 2 capfuls of lemon juice to a litre gets me PH6.5 ish

i used malt vinegar.. it did the trick its around 5.8 - 6.0.. weirdly enough even after 5 hours or so my plants look alot more lively and growing faster.
yeah, i wish i had a walmart here, but i live in sh*tty england. you seem to be able to get everything from walmart.. we should get one of those.

even my local gardening centre didnt stock ph tester, so i tried another and no luck, pet shop had one, they had PH up but no PH down, that could be because Fish shouldnt live in acidic water perhaps.

They should have ph up i have fishtanks and i wouldnt really take the risk of not having it around even though i rarely use it with my aquariums. Call around other aquatic pet stores somebody should carry it if all else fails order online which is easier anyways

another source for water testing is hot tub swimming pool outlets fish generally can't take a high PH any better than a low one acidic water is less plentiful I guess good luck
