Petroleum Oil Kills Spider Mite Eggs!

"Petroleum oil provides some ovicidal activity against spider mite eggs. None of the other miticides provide ovicidal activity"

How come I haven't heard about this petroleum oil? Neem Oil seems to be very popular but according to the above statement, it won't kill the eggs(which is the biggest problem).

So, I purchased All Seasons Spray Oil (98% petroleum oil) and a trusty no pest strip. My ladies were 2 weeks into flower and had a pretty bad infestation. Sprayed the undersides of the leaves and the main stem heavily, tossed in the no pest strip(to kill the hatched mites). The next day I couldn't find any mites! eureka! I left the no pest strip in for a few more days, then I put it in a zip lock bag to save potency. If I see anymore mites I will toss it back in. It has been two weeks since, still no mites! So I assume this petroleum oil worked... I use my 100x microscope to examine the leaves and all that remains are the dead eggs. well, I assume there dead.

its only $13 at Home Depot.

Don't use it if your temps are 94 or above(which they shouldn't be ha ha).

I hope I helped save some bomb weed!

HOT SHOTS NO PEST STRIP. I still use them off and on and my plants are 50 days into flowering. I would personally use it up until a week before harvest. Good luck

would you use the petroleum oil 6 weeks into flower? I've had pest strips in and out for a month now.. (5 in a 4000w 900 cu ft grow) and still am seeing eggs, webs and some adults. mother fuckers. i'm vacuuming the webs up with a computer vac but the grow is just too big.. the only way to get to 12 of the 17 ladies is crawling and there's no standing up. Any adivce would be a huge help!

Its almost a lot cause unless you go full blast on trying to kill em. IE pull all the plants out, spray them all every single leaf, wipe off the eggs from every single leaf as welll with your finger. What I used to spray was a garlic/water solution HEAVILY. Also need to make sure you completely spray down your entire growing area. I did this then stuck em in the shjower the next day to rinse everything off and they havent been back :)

Im in week 4 of my flowering and I am noticing some webbing and these little guys being active, I purchased the All season spray oil and the hot shot strips, now when is it best to apply the all season(petroleum oil) spray, at night when they are asleep or during the day when they are up?? thx

since you are currently flowering i would not spray them at night to avoid mold. When the plants wake up is a fine time.

be sure to shake the bottle up in between every few sprays. GOOD LUCK!

Lex 420: I would try watering rather than a foliar spray at this point (4weeks) The guy at the grow store told me that I could drench app azatrol this late (6ml per gallon, which is much less than the dosage recommended on the bottle) he swears by it...
Everyone seems to say that the pest strips work but you have to turn the ventilation off for a couple of days..?

As for me, I can't even rotate any of the girls, half of them are in 10 gal. As for now I've just been vacuuming and cutting off the vent at night to let the pest strips release those toxins.. I'm harvesting a garden overrun with mites but ironically the buds look and smell incredible. After I chop em I heard these bastards will migrate to the stem.. anyone know anything about this?

Spider mites are actually more awake at night. They hate the uv light so when it is dark they crawl around the plant. When the light is on they stay put under the leaves avoiding the light.

So a good time to spray would be a half hour before your lights come on.

Thanks to frosty420(tokecity) for thee info..

thanks for the reply, also wanted to figure out after applying the spray with the lights on, should I after rinse them by spraying them again but with just water to take the oil of it or is it fine to leave on?

Leave it on, the leaves should stay coated

What about running your CO2 (bottle or yeast) in the enclosure while bombing the area with the no-pest strip.
Would that compensate the the lack of ventilation?

This really helps alot as I just recently noticed little fuckers on my plants and some of my leafs have white dots and spots on them due to them sucking the sap from my babies fucking pests are annoying I will definitley try this.

Did you try taping it to your fan? I recently found that to be much more effective.

And I'd trust these things for no more than 1 week.. They lose potency past 1 week or so and don't work..you should be spraying your plants hard daily with at least water too.

and I wouldn't leave an older strip in the room as to avoid them building resistance.

If it's an oil, wont using it with the lights on cause burns to the plant?

If he keeps a couple of oscillating fans on the plants full speed during the dark period I don't think mold will be a problem.

I had to get rid of Thrips last night. I used Mite X which is an oil base (cottonseed oil, clove oil, garlic oil, sorbitol, olcic acid, dodecanoic acid, stearic acid, molasses, sucrose, and water) and saturated the plants at the begining of the dark period. I had 2 fans on the plants and everything was fine by morning. Well it didn't kill the eggs so I had to remove them myself, but other than that, no problems at all.

I also added UVB lights since I had heard that they're good at keeping away some pests. Not sure which pests, but mites, thrips, and aphids are a problem here (20% humidity) so I'm hopeing it helps with some of them.

If spraying isn't a viable option because of crop size or something, I may have another suggestion for mite population control. I just found out that Home Depot sells lady bugs, and lady bugs eat amphids and mites. They're $25 a pint, just get more than you need and it should keep mite population down for you. Of course they're only really helpfull if you have an idoor grow going and can keep them in the grow room.
