Perfect CFL light set up for flowering?

I've veged my plants for 2 weeks and switched to 12/12 today. I was veging under 6500k CFLs and am now using 2700k to flower, with a couple of 6500k bulbs still in there. Is this the best way to go? Is it actually a good idea to flower small plants under a majority of 2700k lights? A lot of people seem to use 6500k CFLs for their whole grow... What's the 411?

From what I've learned on this forum is people that usually use 6500k CFLs for the whole grow most likely have autos. Other people use fewer 6500k[more 2700k] for flowering. The light spectrum is what is needed [you probably know that though]. How many are you exactly using between 2700k and 6500k CFLs?

172 watts of 2700k CFL, and 54 watts of 6500k. There is a 2700k bulb placed very close to each plant and the 2 6500k bulbs are just placed one in each end of the box. Is that a good mix to flower them properly? I don't want to induce too much stretching because height is limited. Would the presence of those couple of 6500k bulbs help keep the nodes close? Thanks,

Hey contributor i was actually looking up mixed spectrums for flowering/vegging earlier and most people seemed to agree that as long as most of the bulbs are the "correct" spectrum that it would do just fine and that the added light will help(aka 75% are 2700k in flowering and 25% 6500k)<not exact ratios just saying majority need to be right for the flowering and vegging respectfully.

Dont use just 6500k for flowering, if you dont have alot of 2700k i dont think your buds will develop as well as they could.

Dont know if it will help with stretching or not. For stretching i would suggest using LST (or scrog) and make sure you keep the lights as close as you can without burning the plants 1.5-3"

Good luck! Would love to see some pics if you could :P

Contributor,

The amount of bulbs is fine. Now when you say there's bulbs placed very close to each plant, just make sure it is around 2-4", you don't want to burn your plants. I keep my bulbs about 3" away from the top and mine are doing fine. Now, you also say you don't want to induce stretching due to size restrictions? Whats the size of your box? Also I agree with BlazedMonkey, if you've only vegged for 2 wks and are going to 12/12, either LST the plant or invest in a SCROG. Both ways will keep the height of your plant down.

And put some photos up. :D
