Peak/Off-peak elec price

I was searching for the difference in price between peak and off-peak hours and what those hours were. The difference was VERY surprising.

According to their website:

Peak (8am-9pm): 6.472 cents/ kWh
Off-peak: .272 cents?/ kWh

Is that a fucking typo???? Is it really THAT much less???? Holy crap!

On a side note: How does the elec box know when it's peak/off peak to charge you correctly??

Well, i think i found the answer to one of my questions.

It turns out i don't think my meter is capable of tracking peak or off-peak consumption. Therfor i don't save a dime during off-peak hours.

I'm going to call the power company tomorrow and see what they can do for me. I'd much rather run 12/12 during the night and save a bundle!!!!

I did some math and here's what i found.

If i switch to the "smart meter" plan:

Dummy Plan:
$6.30/ month service fee
$0.04569/KWh

Smart Meter Plan:
$20.87/ month service fee
Peak: $0.082/KWh
Off-peak: $0.01775/KWh

So the regular price of electricity is two and a half times more expensive during the off peak hours than if you had a smart box.

The peak price in the smart plan is almost two times more expensive in the smart plan also.

That's nor inuding the service fees.


What do you guys think???? You think i'd save any money???

do you exceed 2500 KWH a month and every month for the past year?

Time-of-Use (R-4) This rate is available for all domestic purposes in an individual private dwelling or an individual apartment and for church and farm purposes. For customers requiring special and complex metering for service, the availability of this rate will be subject to the Company's ability to render such service. Any residential customer whose average usage exceeds 2,500 kWh/month for a 12 month period may elect to take service under this rate effective with installation of appropriate metering. Until service can be provided under this rate, the customer shall take service under Rate R-1. Some condominium associations are also eligible for this rate.

2500 kwh isnt all that much.

running a 1k light all day for a month is 720 kwh

yea, i just realized that that is just for the "delivery services".

The "supply services" are fixed at almost 10 cents a kwh.

So it's even less of a difference than i thought.
