pc fan noise in a wardrobe

Any one know how I can reduce the noise of my pc fan? Im just sticking a nft and 400w HPS in my wardrobe to see if it will work out for some seeds started 2 weeks ago but the noise is bad, we have folk in the house that id rather not know about it so any ideas would be great.

Oh is a 400w in a normal wardrobe ok? I have the fan extracting the air from the top of the unit so to try keep it cooler but not sure its enough.

Different PC fans have different noise levels. Usually those large 120mm fans are pretty noisey, but if you shop around on the internet you should be able to find some that provide decent CFM while having a low decibel level.

That search on newegg will show you PC case fans that have the CFM and DB level. The lower the DB level the quieter the fan is. Also depending on the strain of weed you are growing you might want to invest in an activated charcoal filter if the smell is too much. You can cut up those range hood filters for that.

The only way you will know if you are extracting enough heat is to put a temp monitor in there to check to see how hot it gets. In general you want to try and keep your temps below 90F, but then it all depends on your strain...some like it hot...some like it cold...

Higher quality fans -- ball bearing setups = less noise. Thermaltake has never let SWIM down and its silent.. perfectly.. started with a 'server box' setup and have moved onto a full room... but i still have the box and it worked beautifully. It also depends on how you have it mounted.... are the mounting points insulated? If not.. insulate them.. vibrations will be shunted.

found out that larger slower still shift the air so bought 2 and got one on the plants so all looks good.... wired all to a mobile charger. one issue is the black white is not TOTALLY light proof, is there anything i can do? got a 400w hps and need to make it invisible..... if poss

is there any way of cooling down the wardrobe as its sitting at just over 100 and thats with 2 fans extracting and 1 on the plants. I also have the humidity at 20% so placed in a bowl of water, is there anything i can do?

The humity will change when you get temps right.
400w hps and pc fans is the problem. what size is room?
You need to get more air out from the top

right its only 54x30 and i have 2x 12"x12" fans... think i can put a fan (and hole) on the bottom if it will help

gonna be tough to keep a 400 cool with just pc fans. I would personally look into a air cooled hood with a quiet smaller inline fan

Here's what you do:

Put an oscillating fan in the same room to create a diversion. Nobody is going to hear a pc fan over the ambient noise created by the larger oscillating fan.

Get a 6 inch duct fan for 30 bucks. They move 240 CFM, i dont think they are to much louder than PC fans but im gonna be calling the company today.

Cool never thought of the other fan in the room thing, got lizards oin the room so would help keep the room cool aswell as cover the sound.

I got a $20 computer power supply, which came with two fans. They are uber silent. So for $20, you get a power supply to drive the fans and 2 silent fans.

do you have any intake holes now? if not, that will help alot- you dont need a fan,a passive inlet is fine as long as its big enough.- 2x the size of your exhaust fans is good for passive intake

no not yet, the problem is that its a wardrobe and if I make more vents the light will be an issue, is there a way round it?
