hows everyone been? I took quite a break from riu, going to come back and see how it goes. i am not growing mj at the moment, and i am no longer living in a cold mtn area so i decided to give an outdoor garden a try. i have no idea what im doing just trial and error. i bought heirloom seeds non gmo trying to grow some food thats actually worth eating. i put two 6' X10' raised beds in the backyard, ive started the seeds indoor under an 8bulb t5. so far i got a bunch of different lettuce, tomatos, cherry tomatos, a couple watermelon, some jalapenos, carrots, a few different varities of peppers, cauliflower, kale, peas.. there might be a few others. i will post pictures tomorrow. for soil... i live in the southern california desert so i have all sand for backyard lol. so for the beds ive decided to go with a little bit of everything since i dont know what im doing. i did something like 15cu feet of coco, 6cu feet of foxfarm, roots organic, and happy frog, and maybe 8 cu feet of happyfrog soil conditioner, and 4cu feet of perlite. i did this per each bed. i might of gone a little overboard but you cant put a price on fun. lately the temps have been going up at night, we havent been getting into low 30s anymore but i still believe there will be a freeze or two before the cold is gone. when should i plant outside? which veggies do better in the cold? also how much food am i going to be able to grow with the two 6x10 beds? i was thinking of maybe doing 7 gal pots for the peas and tomoatos ? any opinions or information would be greatly appreciated.

might do a couple mjs out there as well for fun i haven't made a final decision on that.

My first thought is pearlite is likely not good living in a dessert no less CA

Dessert being mainly sand you should not have issues with drainage or airation , But lack of water is always a issue in the dessert

General rule off thumb is frost kills seedlings , But that is not always true Cauiflower and kale and carrots can generly take light frosts as seedlings , However cauiflower/brocklie require a good amount of water kale as well.

Beans and peas require a soil temp around 50 degress to even grow, so dont put those out yet, also many peas and beans require a trellis to grow propperly If planted at the right time corn stalks can work well for this (Look into a method of planting called 3 sisters)

You can help the soil warm up faster by covering it with black plastic
