i am a very patriotic person i love my country.it pisses me off to see people talk bad about america when they live in america if its so bad then get the hell out you dont deserve to be here!
people who disrespect our military makes me mad to they signed up to put there life on the line to protect our freedom. if i see a service member anywhere i will always go up to them and shake there hand and tell them thank you for what you do.
i set down with an old man that served in the marine corps and he told me stories about the wars he served in and the stories he told me just made me that much more proud to be an american. Thank you to anyone that is on this forum that has served in the military.

what makes you proud to be an american?

I like the quality of life over here, not too fond of the way things are run...Purely from a Land standpoint, I think America is one of the best places in the world, we have it all, except tropical rainforest...But definately some amazing one of a kind sites to see here...I just wish they would take better care of it...And as for the military, while I vehemently oppose military action, I do have a great deal of respect for those who give their lives and put their lives on the line to protect my quality of life.

I have no doubt in my mind we are more free than some countries. But we still have a lot of room for improvement. I agree hating on any country is obnoxious. But at the same time if everyone who didn't agree with their country left, we might be doomed :eyesmoke:

Good point, :).
But there's a difference between bitching and trying to improve.
But thats why we are always having meetings and political debates, to improve.

the american bill of rights is one of the most badass documents in the history of the world. how many other places guarantee freedom of speech and religion, protection from illegal search and siezure, right to assembley, right to bear arms, right to a speedy trial and to not incriminate one's self, protection from cruel and unusual punishment, protection from double jeopardy, and that's not even half of what's covered. being presumed innocent until proven guilty and a jury made up of your peers. i acknowledge that there are flaws simply due to the fact that the country is run by individual humans with their own agendas, but that's just human nature and it's the case in every country. it's not a reflection of the system in itself.

well, I doubt my views would be any more liked then the next guys.

The people who make up the worst of this country I dislike.

The politicians who support genocide I dislike.

The special interest groups and their money funneling I dislike.

These are among the root cause of hatred for our country.

a few of those rights were taken away in the patriot act. federal agents can basically do whatever they want now.

i was just on a thread in the politics section about the patriot act. i complained about the new ssn requirement on gift cards and how i haven't ordered seeds because of it and this dude was all "stfu you were going to commit a felony anyway". it's really not the point. the same way it doesn't matter if i have weed in my car because i have protection from illegal searching. i may be "getting away with something" but it's the price that's paid for protecting these freedoms. it's what gives the system integrity and structure. some people are going to go free because they have certain rights and the law lacks certain authorities. maybe if we wiped our ass with the constitution a little harder we could put EVERYONE in prison.

El Yunque in Puerto Rico is part of the Federal Park System, and it is a Tropical Rainforest.

Until they catch you!!! LOL (I truly hope not)

Although this country certainly has more freedom than many others, we're not NEARLY as free as we were 40 years ago, but we're certainly freer than we will be in another 40.

That bill of rights that was mentioned earlier was the very document that defined us as Americans. But over the past 50 years it has become an anachronism, and is now only a shell of what it once represented. It is under attack by law enforcement, and the very government that guarantees us that freedom. That Bill of Rights, when it was in full effect, pretty much tied the hands of Law Enforcement and the government, preventing the very civil rights violations that now occur on a daily basis. All in the name of "protecting" us. (But who is gonna protect us from them?)

Patriotism is all well in good, but that attitude is why things are as fucked up as they are, let me explain. The patriot act. They named it that so if you were against it, you weren't a patriot, yet it turned all our 'rights' into privileges. Tell me, do you think our servicemen signed up to defend a country they believe to be free? Or one they thought didn't have freedoms? Politicians make a career out of hiding behind serviceman, then don't do shit for them when they have a chance. When things are fucked up, WE SHOULD SAY SOMETHING. Not just accept it, cause fuck it, this is the best country on earth, we have men fighting and dying for it. Every country has servicemen, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't speak up.
