Outdoors in town - security/smell

How risky is it if you have a privacy fence in a legal state in a sub division? I really worry about the smell & rippers. No one will know of the location.

Trying to figure out if I should try renting somewhere else or not.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I've known several outdoor growers here in Colorado. Rippers ended up loving it. Fences are weak sauce. One grower had a pitbull, no help.

If you live in a neighborhood, chances are that you will be noticed. If its legal, I would completely enclose inside of a dog kennel, then a few more layers of fencing (top included), dogs, motion alarms.
Growing is is mentally taxing, and worrying can lead to anxiety, insomnia and other side effects. If there isn't someone home at all times (especially flowering), then I personally wouldn't attempt a grow.

Carport. Out of sight, out of mind. Stealthy.......you can hide everything but the smell. I've been growing inside a carport, in town, for years. Good luck

i grow in town in my backyard in a greenhouse.

i got through the first year with no precautions, but the second and third years were 24/7 guard work. if you're not there, someone else has to be, and they have to be alert.

even if i was watching golf in the middle of the day, the volume was always low enough so i could hear anything happening in the backyard. camped out in a tent at night just outside of the range of the motion sensor alarms for months.

In my opinion greenhouse attract all the wrong attention, they look like your growing something inside. Carports not so much.
Carports look like every other carport in the neighborhood, maybe an old boat or car inside. Less obvious more stealth.

Once it starts stinking it goes where the wind blows.
I would be a nervous wreck in town.

I will only be having 3 plants about 6ft each think my neighbors will call the cops? I only have to worry about my left side neighbors

If your "legal" a phone call from the neighbors to the cops will fall on deaf ears. Some counties have residential grow restrictions (or bans). It would help to know what state at least.
Try some low odor strains? Northern Lights (maybe)... Good Luck

If it is legal to grow outdoors where you live, you might as well go for it. If you get ripped off then that will be sad but you will know what you are up against and you won't be in jail.

This would be your best bet right here. Then go to home depot and get a few driveway alarms. They're extremely cheap and are set off by motion going through their radar range. Which in turn causes the alarm part to go off. This part is a portable little thing you plug up inside your house somewhere. It looks kinda like a baby monitor.
There's a video on here somewhere where a guy had a walky talky type thing set up on his outside plants and had night cameras on his plants. Some thief hopped his fence and was about to rip em. Then he's like
"Wtf"
Thief stops and is looking around
"Hey GTFO HERE!"
Thief scramble out of there fast as can be.
The night cameras are pretty cheap as well these days. Just the basic black and white video cams will do the job.
Driveway alarms go off, turn on tv that the cam's hooked to, see what's going on.
If it's the neighbors cat's Mr Tinkles then oh well.
If it's Robby the neighborhood ripper then you can plan accordingly.
Slide the .22 barrel out the window and pop him in the ass with it. Or release the hounds.

I say put on your hiking boots brother. Town is too tough. Good luck either way

Thank you all so much for your help. Overall, it sounds like better off in the country or just sticking with indoors. I was having a hard time figuring it out since I've never had experience in outdoor gardening so I appreciate all of your help.

It's ironic, I was actually reading through either your thread, or someone else's you were posting in recently & posted those pictures. I had noticed there was a house in the background and i was like damn! im assuming thats a neighbors house? I'm digging the idea for sure! If I can't find somewhere with land i might have to give that a try with a plant or two.

During the season I live everything GB mentioned. Green house or carport you can't hide the smell. I sleep dressed and guns loaded and dog outside. Would I shoot anybody..... no..... come into my house...... yes.
