Our First Harvest! (video)

Hey fellow growers,

I just wanted to show off our first harvest. Now we're not experts on trimming as this was our first time, so feel free to drop tips.

Special thank you to all of you who helped when we were lost!

Cheers!

We have a single 400w HPS and then a 125w CFL at the bottom. At first the CFL was just an experiment to see what would happen. We thought another light couldn't hurt. It ended up blooming the popcorn buds amazingly. In fact the quality of the buds from the CFL is better than the HPS. Because of this, we went out and bought 3 more 40w CFL bulbs to put on the other side of the grow room to get more buds with our next harvest.

We are using rockwool/hydroton and Flora nute series.

Wow Very very nice. Would you happen to have a picture of the 2nd week of veg? I would love to see if I'm on track or not.

sweet bro, ya man im about to start my first grow just getting rid of sum shit first. i use to just buy n flip if u kno wat i mean. but after finding this website, it open my eyes. I have been looking to grow white widow and thinkn about northern lights. I really want to grow indica for my first time and im going to lst my plants, im going to be using a grow tent wid a 600 watt hps.

I wouldn't go white widow. In my experience: it went longer than expected, grew larger than expected, and was a little late on the production side. It's a great herb but I'd find something short and quick for your first grow. That way, if you have difficulties or need to start over, you won't have to wait as long. We're switching over to Aurora Indica and Papaya from Nirvana seeds. They're short and finish quickly (supposably).

So far our big mistakes during grow were:

Putting the plants into flower when they were too big. We waited about 2 months after propagation and they were bushes when we put em in. The got super big and were hard to manage. I recommend keeping whatever you put into flower about a foot to 1 foot and half tall. Ours were about 3 feet and grew to 9 feet (we had to LTS them).

Make sure your timers are working through out the grow. We had a couple of instances where they went without water for a day or they had too much light in flower. Our HPS burnt through 3 timers (we live in CZ and our ballast was from germany so we had to rig the power adapter).

We cloned too early. We expected an 8-9 week flower period and got a 13 week period so our next batch is too big too. So for your second grow, prepare a few different sets of clones (you might have to sacrifice some) at different intervals. Then when the first set finish, you can take the best sized ones. Then you'll have a good idea how long your strain takes so you don't have to live through the same nightmare twice like we have to.

Anyways, hope our mistakes help you!

We got em from Sensei seed bank.

I believe I have some pics from 2nd week in Veg. They might be on the other computer. I'll post em in a bit.

Sensi Seeds have some good strains IMO.

I've got their 'Afghani #1' and its a very likeable strains IMO. I actually just harvested mine about 2 weeks ago as of today. Smoke a single 'wake-n-bake- bowl this morning when I got back from the doctor and WOW. It could use just a little stronger taste and smell.. but other than that, its a great strain IMO. I like it anyhow.. ;)

the high is a giggly one if harvested around day 55 to 60.. even though Sensi Seeds says '43 day flowering time'.. we all know that breeders 'advertised flowering times' are posted based upon the plant/strain being grown under/in optimal conditions (meaning absolute perfect conditions) and probably grown under at least 1k watt light(s)...
so whenever you consider the fact that everyone's setup/environment is different and rarely "perfect"... you have to kinda compensate those factors/variables into the grow itself. In other words.. basically, with my current setup.. I'll usually add 2 to 3 weeks onto the breeders advertised "flowering times".. which everyone should do IMO.. as I think this is the #1 factor to why most noob's will harvest WAY too early.. because they don't stop and think and put into consideration these different variables.

but anyhow.. yeh, I would also recommend you try Sensi Seed's 'Afghani #1'.

peace.

Really another 2 weeks? It was supposed to be an 8 week strain and we let it go for 13. Now we did have 3 draughts and 2 periods where the lights were on for an extra 5 hours during harvest when the timers broke. Would that have postponed the development 7 weeks?

From my video you can see the flowering room preharvest. Obviously it's not 'optimal'. But do you think that the strain would go 7 weeks beyond what the breeder suggests? I'm a total noob and was trying to judge when to pull the ladies out. Some buds looked perfect and ready. Some looked like they needed more time. And a few were dying for being in so long. What would you do in that situation? Should you just chop the ready ones out or will that slow down the process as the plan needs to heal itself?

Oh and one of the main colas was starting to sprout a new bud out the side of itself....like the bud was forking. So when most of the bud was nearly finished, we had this fluffy white haired monster growing out the side.....we just trimmed it off?

Small update. After everything dried, we went ahead and weighed it.....375grams!!!!!!!! From a 400w HPS + 124 CFL. Imagine if I would have waited as recommended above...I would have gotten close to 1gram per wat.
