Organics with Tap Water???

I am going to do an organic run coming up and I am trying to figure out if I can use straight tap water. I will be running a coco mix with supersoil on bottom and straight water to feed. I read alot about chloromine and our city does not add this to our water. There is a bit of chloride. The ppm out of the tap is usuall 100-150 here. Does anyone have any input if this will be safe for my babies and not kill all my beneficials? Would I need to ph this to 6.5 with this setup or just water straight from the tap? Any advice would be great!

Peeps say the Chlorine can kill some of the benefical bacterial and fungi living in soil. This makes some sense to me. To be safe the water should be left overnight so the Chlorine can evaporate off. A small aquatic pump can be used to blow air bubbles through the water, the theory is the Chlorine evaporates faster.

Thanks MF! That does make sense and would be easy enough to implement. Since there's no chloromide i think that would be the only thing that would kill bennies.

So you think a few days with a solid airstone? How the hell would I know if my bennies are getting offed? I don't want to be too paranoid here but safe. I hate boogie men

If youre brewing a tea using organic goodies and bubbling it using an air stone a foam will begin to form (a bit like coca cola foam). This is a sign that the benefical bacteria are multiplying and dosent take place when anti-bacterial agents are present.

you wont see any foam if there aren't any microbes

Yeah, I am shooting for water only. All the goodies in the supersoil already. Maybe I will run 2 and do one straight from the tap and one after sitting and see how it goes. Thanks everyone!

I have brewed teas with my tap and they always foam up. Is that a good sign the tap isn't an issue?

you'll always have better results with dechlorinated water

the microbes produces gases creating bubbles, so they are normal if you are doing it right. woot woot johny1212

Thanks inupe! I will be using dechlorinated for sure. No chloromide here so that should be sufficient. Thanks for everyone's input!

Get an RO (Reverse Osmosis) Filter. You can find em for decent price if your willing to spend over a hundred bucks to ensure your ladies proper water.

I do have RO but I am trying to simplify. The water here is only about 90-100 ppm so chlorine is the only issue. Thanks fo the post!

Is R/O water good for Organic soil?
