Opinions on my design idea (its a long post)

I really liked Al B. Fucts (Harvest every 2 weeks) and I decided some spin off this would be a great idea.

Ive been bouncing ideas around and this is what I have it down to...

a red box is 3' x 3' and 5' tall - this is the walls. (wooden)

a brown circle is a pot - gonna be using soil.

the yellow elipse denotes the type of lighting used in the box. If the lighting specified is MH - im using 24/0 photoperiod. if the lighting specified is HPS im using 12/12 photoperiod. (I understand this is Veg and Flowering light cycle)

Ok, Design 1: In box #1, I take cuttings from a mother and root the clones. Out of the clones I take the best 2, and put them into box #2 for 2 weeks,

2 weeks later I choose the best plant and put into box #3. I keep the best looking plant and put into box #3. every now and again instead of discarding the other plant, ill replace a mother with it.

box #3, every 2 weeks I harvest. every 2 weeks in goes another plant.

Strength: This should give bigger buds than Al B. Fucts, and hopefully speed flowering growth because of the veging stage.

Weakness: Will i have enough room in 3' x 3' box for 4 flowering plants?

Now, Design 2, Basically I take the clones every week, put them in a pot, and each week I pull out some bud.

Strength: I get buds every week :)

Weakness: weekly work, 1 plant means less bud, and it didnt do a veging stage first either.

So, Let me know what you think overall, or give me a preference to which design you like best.

Thank you very much for your time. :)

Well, welcome to the forum, Smithy. If you think you are going to improve on AL B Fucts Current yield of 3 # per month by leaving plants in vegging longer you do not understand why his system work the way it does. Al keeps mother plants, they have always been on a 24/7 light schedule. IF you changed their light schedule to 12/12 they would flower almost immediately, they are already VEGGITATIVELY mature plants. Clones taking from these plants do not need any further VEGGING time, they just need some roots and they are ready to flower. Since you cut off the bottom 1/3 of the plant in a SOG style of growing, all you will do be vegging them longer in produce more plant material to throw away when you trim them.
Now lets take a logical look at the height of your growing space. Start with the height of an hid light, about 8", add the space needed for whatever you are going to put you plants in, lets just say another 8", and add the distance you need to keep the light from your plants, at least another 8". You will need some space, probably about a foot between your ceiling and your light, don't want to start the roof on fire. If you add all of that up it leaves about 2' for your plants.
I have some doubts about your ability to get a better yield with that space than Al is getting with his 3' tall plants. But Hey, my goal is to beat Al too. VV:blsmoke:

So if I had a mother plant, I take 2 (hypothetically identical) cuttings from it, the first cutting i throw into flower using Als technique, 8 weeks later I have BUD A.

now cutting 2 on the other hand I put into a veg state, allow it to grow for 4 weeks, maybe fim/top it. and then put into flowering, 8 weeks later I have BUD B.

Now your trying to tell me BUD A is going to be the same size as BUD B ?

Please dont misunderstand, Im not trying to beat Al, Im trying to beat his set-up and make it viable for my space. I dont have the area that Al has, and for my grow area I think my idea would be more suited to my situation.

But from what you have stated, you say Design 1 is the better option ?

Do you know how much space a plant of Als takes up by the final week? just over a square foot each?
Al has 23 plants in pots on tables that are 2'8" square. His style of growing is called SOG (Sea Of Green). One is left out for the flood and drain fittings. And he uses the same space in the final week he uses in the first week, the size of the pots determines the space each plant has. None of that really matters, you will be limited by your pot size. Since you are growing in soil, you will need 3-3 1/2 gallon pots, they will take a square foot of space, and topping, lollipopping and super-cropping don't increase yeild, they may match it if you take total time and total bud into account, they will not beat it.
I am not saying you shouldn't try whatever you want to try, I started with soil, I would hardly be one to say you shouldn't. You should start, simply, and maybe work your way into that rotation, it does take some time, I believe you can learn as you go, I have been for the past two years, at least I like to think I have.
If I could show you how to harvest 8 oz of bud from three female plants, in less than 90 days, would you be interested? VV:blsmoke:

Then go get the book. Marijuana Buds For less, written by SeeMoreBuds. In this book the author shows you how he grew 8 oz of dried bud from 3 female plants for less than $100.00. There are pictures of the plants every day. a list of the materials used, instructions on ph'ing your water, even a section on cloning. I bought mine at Barnes and Nobles, $16.95, they have it in the gardening section. VV

Hey, thanks very much for the informative post.

Ive just bought a nice 400watt HPS, and as the weeks pass and my kitty builds up ill be splashing out on some more equipment, I'll definitely pick up that book at some point too.

I was trying to think of a way to minimize plants grown but maximize buds harvested. which is kinda the opposite idea to what SoG is about, but im thinkin of coming to an inbetween so I get the most smoke, but the least sentence if i get caught (since in UK I believe cannabis plants are presumed to be grown to an average height), when determing how to sentence.

I think im going to go with the Design 2 image in the end then. Its a straight from clone to flower and gives a bud every week.

Thank you very much,

Smithy.
