Oni Seeds "Papaya Punch".........

This strain is a hybrid with Oni's signature strain Papaya (NOT Nivana's Papaya) and Purple Punch, which is Larry OG X Granddaddy Purple. Their Papaya is known for its' sweetness and bulk (yield). What attracted me to it was it's 80% leaning to the indica side, heavy yield, and great pic's on Instagram. I bought the last 4 packs available, and was lucky to get them as others had them in their cart and hadn't yet pulled the trigger. LOL. I started 24 plants, but pulled 4 out as the room became too unmanageable with so much material in there- but had 100% germination.

It's supposed to be a short plant, so I vegged longer than normal, around 33-34 days I think. Todays pic shows the room in flowering, at day 41. They are supposed to go 9-10 weeks, and the different pheno's are readily evident. I didn't top the plants this time, which I normally do- just grew them out and let them do their thing. I've also kept their N level higher than normal, about 50/50 with the veg/flowering nutes hoping to keep the plants greener for a longer run. I've had to keep the Cal/Mag levels high too, 10ml per gallon of r.o. water as they have the tendency to taco, so be aware.

The plants at this point have quite a stink, but with a sickly sweetness to them. I had to lollipop the bottom 20% or so on most of the plants as they put off a lot of bottom crap which won't amount to the quality I'm looking for. Yield so far looks good, not great but the plants are a bit leafy (maybe because of the high nitrogen)- I'll start trimming 1-2 sun leaves a week off each plant starting shortly, to help the light reachIMG_0794.JPG further down, increase air circulation and make final trimming somewhat easier. The yield might be better then I'm expecting, just can't see deep to the back or downward. No bug issues, very healthy grow and easy to manage up to this point.

I'm here for questions, updated pic once a week with another writeup.

Another week has passed, today is the end of week 7 in flowering. Room is progressing well, I haven't really had to do a thing but water daily- I water 1/2 the room one day and water the rest of the room the next day. They are in 4 gallon pots, and I never over water, especially as we move along in flowering to reduce humidity and mold potential. Not much else to report, very stinky for sure, maybe an 8.5/10 smell scale, it's up there for sure. Great resin production, move some plants around or reach deep inward and your arms become covered in a lovely pot stink we all know. I took 4 pic's in the dark this morning right before turning the lights on with my iPad, not great but you can get the idea. Figuring many of the plants will now be done around week 9, and the remainder maybe a bit later. I typically get very excited about now to try something, but my asthma has been bad lately and smoking is pretty much out of the question so a bit disappointed but I know my friends are biting at the bit on this one. Make sure you click on the pictures to get a closeup for real effect.

Old eagle eye......lol. I went back to the specific plant for a closeup- no male flowers but by the pic I can see what you are talking about. This strain puts out some weird distortions on some flowers but I haven’t seen anything like male flowers or seeds. It’s supposed to be a very stable strain, but I’ll know more in a few weeks. Yield will be above average, but not where I expected it to be- unless they really bulk out the next of weeks. Quality, though, really looks great for only 7 weeks. I'm still maintaining a 50/50 veg/bloom nutrient regimen but today I'll go to 75/25 basically more bloom til I flush. I have been adding a bloom enhancer too, alternating between A.N. Overdrive and Botanicare Hydroplex in small amounts for 2 weeks- at the rate of 5ml per 5 gallons of water. And as always, as a root cleaner, "Z7" by Flying Skull which I really like. My roots always stay perfectly white til the end. By the way, I still haven't plucked off any of the sun leaves like I said I was going to do but I'll get around to it by tomorrow. Back next Thursday at week 8.....

Day 54, things are moving at lightning speed. Thought I might go to 10 weeks, now thinking if I'll go to nine (which I still plan on)- so maybe 9 or 10 days to go?. Plants are using up less water, which is my first sign things are progressing. A few plants are a bit behind this one, but most are on par. I haven't smoked any, nor have I ever grown this before so just going with the flow as I get closer to chopping.

Week 8 in flowering today, don’t have much to say really. The above pic says it all. The plan is to go another week, harvest at week nine assuming the the trichomes have some amber in there. To be honest, I haven’t even looked yet as I’m ripping out some hardwood flooring so some new stuff can be installed, and it’s beating the shit out of my old body. 62 years young birthday just a few days away now. Lol

But I have spent less time with this crop over any crop in recent memory. Just watering when necessary and not much else. Maybe a little molasses in the next few waterings, not much else as the flush has begun. The wait during the last week is always the hardest..........

Finally checked the trichomes today....... still seeing maybe 15% clear, maybe 2-3% amber and the rest some degree of cloudy. So, another 6-7 days and everything should be good to go.

Thanks Dr.......starting to cut tomorrow, figure it will take me around 18 hours total, about an hour per plant- 20 plants total. I’ll do half the room Friday and the other half on Saturday. Sunday will be clean up day, then start over early next week. Plants have finished well, I cut light intensity down to 75% on Sunday, and am turning lights off an hour early. Room has been cool at night too, which helps. Pic’s up in a day or two.....

Oh........it's day 65- the breeder says chop time is 9-10 weeks. A few plants might have wanted a 4-5 days but most are well done. Lots of brown/amber in the trichomes, and didn't see any more clear. The plant jn the above pic is probably the least done plant in the room. Looking forward to smoking some scissor hash tomorrow!

Hi Dr.......I go in and cut the plants up branch by branch, trim them right away to perfection (took me 15 hours total), hang dry for 7-8 days (less time in the winter when the heat is on and the house humidity is low). Then I separate it all by cola size and assumed quality (visual appearance) in large tupperware containers which I open and close for another week or so depending. I just packaged up 8 oz of Gorilla Glue #4, from 3 crops back and still in it's tupperware container. They were nicely sticky, smelly and still retaining the proper amount of moisture in the buds. It has held up very well.

So, I'll post a pic tomorrow of everything drying. It was a disappointing yield I think, maybe 2.5 lbs total. I ended up throwing out a lot of the lower stuff as it was very under-developed. Since the plants grew taller than I expected, and i didn't pinch but 1-2 of them- the canaopy was uneven and yield was impacted by the higher than normal lights. But, what I did chopped is top shelf. The scissor hash ball is still being smoked (3rd night) LOL. It's an indica for sure, great mild fruity taste (not sweet or lemony or berry like), more like papaya or melon. Only slight head buzz, but the relaxing body hit is noticable. Many of my aches and pains just disappear, I've been sleeping great, and it's long lasting. I really haven't taken more than a hit or two over the day so it's an early review. Some of the buds are purple, from the Granddaddy Purp for sure and there are multiple pheno's. It's an unusual pot with greasy resin, great bag appearance and an enticing smell. Not enough sativa in there for my tastes, but I can see indica lovers very happy to find this.

Clean up day tomorrow, more to come.................

Everything drying.....not my best haul but average. If i don't hit 2 lbs. per light these days, I'm disappointed. Back next with another Ethos Collective strain call Zsweet Inzanity- a hybrid of G.G. #4, Durban Poison and Rainmaker (Citral Skunk X Mandarin Skunk). Ethos guaranteed at least a 30% THC if grown well, MONSTER yield and he claims it's one of his best 3 ever. Smells of sweet candy, pine, chocolate and lime, 60/40 leaning to the sativa side.
