Well, about the first thing. You could harvest it now, but if the rest of the plant isn't done there is a good chance that nug isn't done either. If you have $12 and a few minutes you can run down to your local radioshack and pick up a product they sell called an "illuminated microscope". This will let you properly analyze the trichomes, because outside of that there is no "true" way of figuring out if its harvest time. Really a shot in the dark otherwise.

In regards to you leaving for a week....sounds like your SOL. Timers are $6 at any Home Depot or Lowes, you have no way of getting your hands on one? If not, and you are at 6-7 weeks the question becomes how close are they to harvest? Pictures would obviously help. If they had to go a week w/o any assistance I would call that a stretch, and the last thing you want to do is kill them after being so far along in the process. I would say if you really can't get your hands on a timer and they are pretty close to being done you could be looking at an early harvest. Hang them in a dark closet with air circulation before you leave, and hope an outburst of mold doesn't happen. X.X

Red hairs means nothin when considering harvest, swollen calyxs are a better indicator, once the bud has swollen to max i would consider harvesting. I dont use a microscope and harvest fine. If you know what to look for you dont need one and as for the trics turning amber, when they do you will start to see patches of gold and amber all over the bud, you dont need a microscope to see this just your eyes. Sounds like it is still too early to harvest yet. Peace

Jorge just dont make it clear enough in the bible, the red hairs mean somthing but there just part of the story. Yer hairs are red when ready to harvest but also on a bud thats not ready. Let me tey and explain it a little better and see if it helps-

RED, WITHERED hairs that have RECEDED back into the SWOLLEN CALYX dictate that that flower is or has reached maturity, this sh!t happens all the time, now when almost all the flowers have reached matyrity then the bud is ready to harvest. Generally very few new flowers will be immature or being made at harvest time meaning that most if not all the bud is mature and ready to be cut.

Now difference may be seen where the lower buds take longer to mature than the top main colas as well. Trichromes turn from clear or white to amber or a lovely golden colour, you can tell they are like this because there are thousonds and thousonds of them, loads turn amber and this is the thc degrading to othe great substances. You will see patches of amber and gold on leaves and calyxs if you look up close, i can see each individual trich if i look up real close.

It can and is hard for the first time and new grower to gauge harvest, yer you will get it wrong at first but you will learn, check out thse pics of ripe fat bud, look at the balls, the little seed shaped calyxs, this is bud to me, anything else is just harvested too early. You want balls on your bud with withered red hairs, it swells up fat like this and then you harvest, when 70/80 percent is like this probably harvest soon or within a week or two.

Seriously remember very few new growers harvest late, they mainly harvest early and early harvested weed is crap to smoke imo, wait it out dude, Peace

leaving for a week in the middle of flowering....i will agree SOL......either find someone you can trust to watch them, which i never suggest doing unless unless you flat out halft to......yeah, just run to wal mart and grab a 7-10$ timer.......but if you leave for a week and have no care for them, dont be suprised when you come back and see half your crop almost dead!! leaving your flowering plants alone is like leaving a baby in a car alone, you just dont do it
