TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson police officer who was fired back in March after he allegedly told a boy to flush suspected marijuana down a toilet or face arrest has won his job back.

Officer Douglas Dreher's attorney says the Tucson Civil Service Commission has ordered his client reinstated with back pay, except for 100 hours. That's to serve as an unpaid suspension for failure to seize the plastic bag from the boy and its contents as evidence.

Seriously...this one kills me! How much money was spent on administrative costs to give this cop a hard time? He probably scared the crap out of the kid, saved him/her from a lot of trouble, saved the dept and court system money, and freed up his time to chase real criminals. Most of my friends who are in the law enforcement field usually just toss small amounts from teens at parties, concerts or during patdowns so they don't have to do the paperwork...and then scare the crap out of them before releasing them without a citation.

And, what ever happend to protecting their own?...what I want to know is how the DA or internal affairs let this happen...this cop must have been on somebody's shit list.

Give a kid a break for some weed...get suspended for five months...wow

:peace:

i would like to know who ratted the cop out, the boy? he could of told his parents and they could of raised hell about it or the boy himself could of (not sure why he would or his parents) maybe it was a bystander after all they did say he made the boy flush it.. Or was it a partner or boss that got ahold of the incident? What a waste of taxpayer dollars, it's just dumb.

how old was the "boy"

if it was a 5 yr old boy i understand the comedown on the cop, but if its a teenager? (which i doubt because they would have phrased it with "teenager" or "teen") then christ let it go.. im just not really cool with a cop telling a young kid to flush it or get arrested, in that context, its pretty fucked.

and edit, i agree, what happened for looking out for your own.

The cops in El Paso used to bust us in the desert alot and I have seen them tell people to dump their bags plenty of times. What would you rather do, dump your bag or go to jail? Pretty easy question to answer in my opinion. That is actually a decent cop because most would take you to jail and not even give you that chance.
