It is a state issue at best.
If a state can't afford it then the feds can't either.

I am actually all for leaving it up to the states, and do think that this is what should be done. It would give us a much better look at a slightly more micro level of how different tactics would affect the system and let it move state by state towards the ones that work.

The Feds have no authority to institute such a plan,
even if it was a great plan.
Let the states experiment,
So we can do long term feasability studies.
On all the various diffrent systems we might try.
Why is everyone wanting a cookie cutter Federal Plan.
That will almost certainly ration healthcare.
And cost a fortune (government long term projections are always rosey).
There is nothing in the constitution forbiding the states from socializing things really.
You could let the states try a total free market.
Stay the same

even socialized healthcare.
I oppose socialism because IMO it destroys freedom.

You are ignoring the fact that government, with its taxation steals the production of every working individual in the nation and thus deprives them of the freedom to spend their money on what they wish. When it passes (or attempts to) pass laws such as this National Socialist Insurance crap then it demonstrates that it is not interested in freedom, but in restricting freedom through legislation.
Obama and Bush both attempted to protect the Telecos from lawsuits stemming from Federal violation of our Constitutional rights. Rights, which when violated, reek of attempts to create the kind of Socialist State that existed in the Soviet Union.
It's not paranoia, the evidence is staring the public in the face. Government intervention in the markets is Socialist. Government dictation of how you spend your money through regulations such as requiring people to carry auto-insurance is socialist/fascist in that it grants a monopoly built upon the coercive powers of the state to special interests.
Government responding to lobbyists by granting corporations loopholes in the tax code is socialist, in that the government and corporations are cooperating in a manner that is against the very ideals of this nation, but was found in the USSR and NAZI Germany.

hey in a fairytale land of elves and unicorns nobody would be taxed and we would pay for things with puppy dogs and sunshine. BUT the public schools and mail and police and fire fighters that we need as a society have to be paid for, and even if there was no government the money to pay for these things would have to come from the people anyway. It's still taxes. Is the system flawed? definitely. though some elements seem socialist our government is no way socialist at all. Just because something has a few characteristics of something else does not change what it is in essence.

The only tax money the USPS gets is for postage-free mailing for all legally blind persons and for mail-in election ballots sent from US citizens living overseas. Up until last year the USPS averaged a billion dollars a year profit. Try sending something across the US for 50 cents using FEDEX. And yes, you are a moron.
