Nutrients vs Genetics

How do you know if you are getting the full potential out of your genetics with your chosen nutrient line?

Thanks

Welcome, Try halfing the suggested amount Work your way up slowly your plant will let you know to much or to little Example- to much you will see burned tips and too little new shoots will appear a light green..you want a solid green.. I believe im correct on this Im sure someone else will chime in.. plur yo

If your plants are healthy at harvest, you're probably getting the most out of your genetics quality-wise. In terms of yield, some fertilizers will do better than others. It takes a bit of trial and error but use what works best for you.

a balanced diet is good. but a diet that leans toward K for the whole grow is best.

references; grow bible, cannabis botany 2, giant pumkin growing, orange tree growing....

How big of difference can nutrients make from a yield standpoint. Is it minor or are we talking like 20+% increase?

Put it this way; I tested Advanced nutrients Connoisseur against DynaGro and DynaGro yielded 25% more. But it's not necessarily the brand that makes the difference but the NPK ratio. AN and dirtysnowball seem to agree that a diet balanced towards K is important, but potassium has little to do with fruit sets and flower production. If you want good yields, a balanced ratio of about 1-3-2 for flower will give excellent results.

Homebrewer,

I am using an ebb and flow just like yours. I have dowel rods drilled into the wood stand. I have twine around my three tubs. My problems is I am at day 44 and the weight of the plants is making most of the colas fall over. I don't know how long the plants can hold up. Under the microscope the tri's are mostly clear a couple are cloudy. I was planning on 60 days but I don't know if the plants can handle that much weight. I don't want the buds to fall into the tub and get wet. How long should I wait to harvest? The strain is Cataract Kush. Oh yeah, I using dyna-gro.

Thanks,

High C

My hydro plants get pretty sloppy late in flower as they tend to want to fall every-which-way when putting on weight like you describe. I'd either suggest tying them up or look into trellis netting to support all that weight. It may be too late to add the netting so I'd start tying them up to support those big flowers, they're only going to get heavier in the next 20 days.

25% is a very big difference in yeild! Do you feel that those nutrients are pushing your genetics to the highest yield possible?

I personally feel that the only way to get the best quality/quantity before perfecting your Feeding solutions & soils is to perfect its enviro to the best of ones ability.. Which is easier said than done, as in perfect temps @ all times with a decent swing between lights on lights off, co2 enriched air, Great Lighting 1k watts +., with no pest or fungus issues. Water temps.. It takes time to perfect & dial in a certain strain, I normally take 1 plant out of each strain to abuse on purpose, such as adding extra nutes to see what it can take & what will burn it.. I stress them the hell out to see how vigorous they can be. :) can be a great learning experience when expierimenting on strains

That depends on what you think the limit on yields are. With my situation being a standard overhead light, 1 gram per watt is about as good as I can hope to do. Add in light movers or vertical techniques and that kind of changes the potential. But given my style and environment, that NPK ratio seems to work great for maximizing yield in my space.
