Not too many trichomes?

This plant is an obvious sativa that has been flowering for about 12 weeks now. There isn't a whole lot of trichs and the buds are very thin. I have looked over all the trichs and they all seem to be clear still... Am I supposed to look at the stubby trichs on the calyxes, or the taller more mushroom shaped trichs on the flower leavesDSC_1043.jpgDSC_1042.jpgDSC_1044.jpg? How in the world am I supposed to know if this thing is done? I am new to this hence the forum section I am posting in. I will attach photos. Can someone tell me what's wrong?

what kind of lights are you using? 12 weeks of flowering is pretty long i would check the trichs on the buds half amber half cloudy
they might be so loose cause the lgihts

^Agreed. I'm guessing a CFL grow, with the lights too far away, or not enough light altogether?

Yes it is a cfl grow. the lights are about 4" from the plant. I have 6 of them each at 125w. two up top and 4 surrounding. So it is light that would be the cause of it not putting out many trichs? I had guessed the same due to my outdoor and indoor having a totally different density and far more trichs on the outdoor. Problem is, where I live it grows wild and every time I try outdoors, They seed up pretty darn bad :( So should I get an HID and start over?

At 12 weeks, you are about to start over regardless. Why not just let it finish? Those buds aren't super frosty but that doesn't mean they're not smokable.

^I agree with him, you might as well finish 'em out, because the smoke will still be okay, just not what it could've been. I'm also guessing those lights aren't true 125 watt bulbs? They could be, but looking at those buds, i'd say they're closer to the 42 watt range, claiming 125 watt equivalency? When using CFLs, always go by true wattage. Also, 4" is too far away, they should be as close as possible, without burning your plants. Most CFLs can run within an inch, give or take a little.

Ok I will move them closer. They are a true 125w bulb and produce 7500 lumens. The kelvin rating is 6500. Bringing me back to my q... Will the trichs ever change on this damn thing? The stubby trichs on the calyxes are milky but the taller more mushroom looking trichs on the leaves are ALL clear. I don't want to pull it too soon or too late and suffer all quality in general.

Wow. i would think with THAT many CFL watts on one plant, the bud density would be better. Damn, that's rough man, I'll give ya an A for effort, for sure. :)

If you never see your trichs turning amber... you still can get a general idea of when the plant is done doing what its gonna do- wait for most/all of the hairs to turn brown. Going off of those photos alone, It looks like it could use another week at least. Some sativas are recommended at up to 14 weeks.

Ah. Again, this is my first time messing with a Sativa and I am not having fun... Let's just hope this one is a dud and the next one turns out ok. Thank you all for your feedback and I will let it go another couple of weeks as only about 50% of the hairs have turned. Now I am gonna have to figure out how to dry/cure these tiny little things lol.

im pretty sure that 6500k are used for vegging and 2700k are used for flowering
the plant uses a different light color spectrum for each so that might be it not the right light color for it to take up
is this your first time growing? indoors?
im growing for my first time and believe i have a sativa siince its from some mexi reg

But, should I be looking at the trichs on the calyxes themselves, or the leaves? I mean are the stubby ones, which are all milky on the calyxes, what I should look at or the taller "shroom" like trichs on the leaves(which are all clear)?

Ya I wouldn't be too concerned your not gonna get very much and it don't look dank. Looks like shwag kinda. Poor genetics. Too bad better luck next time.

yeah it was from one of the "free seeds" that come with an initial order... I am from the west coast USA but sadly live in the mid-west these days where outdoor isn't an option. I have NO experience indoor and even less, if that is possible, with sativa strains... So what in the world do i do with this? pull it like shwag and throw it in a bag under a mattress for a couple weeks? lol

next time when you grow indoors again use the 2700k lights for flowering and the 6500k ones you have for veg
you can dry it and everything and make some butter out of it or something

the calyxes, you can be mislead by the trichs on the leaves, which will often be more ripe looking
your lighting sound quite adequate, but not every grow goes great
some sativa's are not recommended for inside growing
