Noob hydroponics question

Im a little confused.

When you use hydroton, do you put the clay pellets in the net pot and the net pot in ANOTHER pot? Or can you just fill up a pot with clay pellets and be done with it?

Fill and be done with it. The first will be enough to hold.

the thing is if you are doing ebb and flow or drip, a pot full of hydroton is fine, if you are doing DWC you want the roots to hang loosely in the nute bath cause you need to be able to change the water without harming the roots
