Next time I go with soil...

Is there really that much difference in the end? I am doing Hydro this time around, first time, and I have just had so much trouble.. I was up at the hydropoics shop the other day and he told me "Thats why I just do soil, none of this bullshit, I water 3x a week and done"

IS soil that much easier to keep up? What is the major differences between the two? I didn't want to do soil for the reason of having soil laying around the house.

i grow in aeroponics because its nice tight lil system..as long as you can keep water temp, PPM, and pH in check(tri-meter)youre good to go...
i like the aeroflo's because i veg for a week, and then flip to 12/12..seems like a faster turn around...soil always got messy for me too..hydro seems cleaner imo.

but in the end, ive seen soil and hydro even outdoor that all looked comparable..its all on the grower, and genetics

What sort of issues were you encountering with hydro?

In terms of things going wrong and easiness etc, i find hydro to be infinately more simple than soil or coco. No farting around overwatering and such, i fill my res up every saturday, maybe add a spot of water mid week and other than that i do fuck all and don't tend to my plants in any shape or form. They sit in that cabinet for 7 days and see me and my bedroom for maybe 10 minutes a week. I had to check and water my plants near every day when i was with multiple pots in soil/coco, al starts off with them being watered on the same day, but you water when they need it, not on a dead set schedule, so in the end i was finding a plant each day that needed to have a batch of water and nutes made up and then ph'ed, sod that, once a week is more than enough.

Yea, figured soil would be messy for me, but just having a ton of problems, could also just be my ghetto ass ebb and flow, but still..

Are you using a real setup of something you created yourself?

soil has many benefits and so does hydro. soil can be easier with smaller grows and it can be more forgiving than hydro. plants tend to grow faster in hydro but smell and taste ar usually more pronounced in a soil grow. soil can be a pain to constantly have to get new and dump old it is more conspicuous than water. and bugs can be a problem with soil if you are not careful. soil can be much simpler.

yeah it might be a lil more stressful when you are DIY. i was all about DIY when i first started growing..i would go to wal-mart and home depot about 10x a day...then i just bought a 36 site aeroflo...

when i did soil i had to check the shit everyday...plants always needed water or something...i can go a couple days without going to my other place and i know shits all good.

Home made DWC but it's as real as anything a shop would sell you. Bucket, silver tape, pump and air stone, fill it with water. Job done. The airstones are over a year old and are so cligged up barely a bubbles comes out, but the plants just keep on growing.

Before Hydro, never went into the Depot. I became all DIY about the hydro, been in there almost 5/7 days every week... No shit.. I think IF I were to use Hydro again, I will have the purchased set up.. Spent so much damn money trying to do it myself this time around it downs me.. But I guess we have to learn some how..

Really might have to look into a DWC system.. I keep reading about them, I have all the shit for it, but don't know how it works...

It can be a touch daunting at first, as is anything grow related, but after i made that first one and saw how siply i worked, it suddenly made growing so much easier, i saw that it wasn't certain systems and methods, you could do quite a bit of any shit and presto, it would grow pot. I was putting a girl into flower but didn't have any spare room in a vegging DWC bucket, so i grabbed a soda bottle, wrapped it in foil, cut the top off with a knife and presto, i had a fully functional DWC cloner for free. (well free baed on me having a spare pump and stone)

DWC really is too simple. The only thing i have to moniter in my setup (others might bark at me and tell me i should check pplenty of things but i dont) is the water level. Other than setting the ph when i fill it, i look at nothing, temperatures, water temps, ph, ec, i just ignore it and succeed. yay!

I actually think we will take our set up that we have going NOW and change it to DWC. We have everything + Some. You don't think that will confuse / stun the plant do you?

Plants can take a hell of a lot before they go and get stressed out though Seems that the notion of stressing plants is a notion that is wildly escalating out of control, they're hardy fucker unless the genetics are utterly shite.

Coco to hydro no problem. Careful with the roots? Nah, just chucked it under the abthroom tap and raked it to shit with my fingers, lost huge chunks of root mass, did just perfectly once it was in it's DWC bucket though that was the literally ducktaped to the side of a netpot that had been cut open, and just kinda bobbed around in the reservoir quite free and content

I should warn you though that he is almost OCD in keeping things sterile clean and thatlot, i used his for understanding the grow and then just went at it myself with the knowledge, but his thread certainly makes DWC out as some mother-inlaw from hell setup, but it's really not necessary to make it that complicated and pinickety

Cool, DWC it is tomorrow. SO simple.. Looked up a few guides, my set up is about 5x more complicated for what??? I have 8 air stones, 12 totes (By now trying to fix my ebb) and bam.. Thats it.. Wtf.. Wish I would have looked around a bit before all this shit.

WNL...I am very new to growing just started actually with a hydro setup. I am using the ebb & grow with 12 pots. So far it seems very easy...Actually kinda boring. lol My buddy is growin in soil and it just sounds like a big pain in the azz! I also didnt like the idea of having to carry in bags and bags of soil all the time. Then what do u do with all ur old soil? I mean I am legal but I still dont want my neighbors wondering why I keep carrying soil in the house. Just another thought to think about

With soil you just put the seed in the dirt and throw water at it whenever you feel like it. it doesn't get any easier

What do you do with your soil if you need to leave town for a few days? With hydro I could leave for a week or two and my plants would still get watered just like I was home

It really does not get any easier than DWC, although my roots englufed my 2 14" air stones, I can't find them. but I'm fix'n to do another one as this one was so easy.

I'm growing the same strain in Soil and DWC, I've spent less time with the DWC than the soil.
