Hey y'all newbie here just dropping in to introduce myself and also ask a couple questions. I've been contemplating growing for a few years now even grew a couple plants a few inches tall just to see if I can get them to grow and then gave them away. But now I feel like I may be ready to grow I've done a lot of research and have looked through this forum a lot but never seen exact answers I've been looking for. Ok so upon checking out HTG's website I'm wondering if their 400 watt complete tent kit is any good. The tent is a 22x36x63 with a 400 watt hps light and ballast. Also comes with some organic roots soil, organic roots nutes, fans etc. All said and done shipped to me will cost me around 550ish and of course I know I'll need odor control and some other things but I figure I could wait a few weeks for that as I'm kind of on a budget and that 550 is pushing it (right now) Anyways is that tent and light a decent set up and can I expect to get decent yeilds out of that tent size and light? I'm only looking to grow 2 maybe 3 plants max at a time. Sorry for any typos I'm using my phone and this site is a little weird while on my phone. Thanks!

ok .what strain you doing? and yeah your 400w hps will do ok but the 600w hps is the yield boots like but if you use your nutes the right way am grab some OVERDRIVE you will do a good harvest. watch for temps getting high try use a inline fan to move air/heat out. make sure you have fresh air in your tent ever 5mins. when you grem you seeds wait till the tail it 1inch out the seeds b4 you pot it. remember you soil has food for the plant in it and will do it for 2-3 weeks some thing when you move you plant from the veg pot to the flower pot 2-3 more weeks of food. but this does not mean you can feed your plants just dont feed to much maby 2 times a week or 1. when you move your plants to the flowering pot... fill you pots with soil then soak them all the way make sure you soil lvl is at the height you want them pot you plant in them. do you know about prelit an soil drainage god there is some much i could tell you. but you need more info i got loads of it an all day to tell it all :) oooh an WELCOME TO ROL!!

Right now I just have some bag seed started and when the tent kit comes in I'll switch it over to the tent. I am interested in a few of the autoflower strains and also as far as regular strains go I'm interested in Northern Lights, Jack Herer, Bubba Kush, possibly Blue Dream and a few others. My main concern was the tent size only being 5 foot 3 tall I know plants can easily hit 5 foot once in flower and even higher. Being so new I don't really wanna mess with LST, Topping or scrog. At least not right now anyways is it possible from start to finish to do this without any training of the plant to keep it short? Also the only reason I am not going 600watt is because in the size tent I'm going I'll never be able to keep my temps down unless I went cool tube and those are $$$ lol.

The great thing about that Apollo is it's dimable .you can turn it down . You don't have to run 600 watts all the time . And for better sake learn from your bagseed to top , LST , supercrop . 6 months ago I was in your shoes . I'm almost done with my first grow . I'm running purple train wreck and liberty haze in flower . I LST them topped them , made many mistakes , has one hermie , pulled a male Hawaiin skunk haze outta the flower tent and learned a great deal about how to supercrop . Don't be afraid . Expect mistakes . Learn from them . Get some fishing line and tie the branches down without breaking . You'll be amazed at what happens and you'll learn from it . I run all advanced nutrients from veg to bloom . I ph my water and fertilizer all the time . I experimented , I learned and look at what happened in the end .....image.jpgShe's the size of a soda can length and thickness

Yeah I don't mind spending the extra 40 bucks for 200 more watts and a better/dimmable ballast. I just liked that kit because of all the stuff it came with. I want to go bigger tent wise but I'm in an apartment and I'm not sure where I'm putting the 5 foot tent right now lol.. And those are some beauty's for sure! Also one thing I'm gonna have trouble with is venting. Will a few inline duct fans work? Like 2 or 3 for intake and 2-3 for pulling air out of the tent? I'll have to have have some serious ona gel going and replacing every week with that many different vent spots lol

You really do not want talk plants. I agree that you should not be afraid of topping, training etc. You will be spending time and money....it will make a difference.

I personally wouldn't bother with Auto's,I have seen normal plants being grown 12/12 from seed, have some better results than some auto strains out there(and 6 hours of 400w per day, makes a big difference to the eleccy bill over 8 weeks)
If you want to grow Bubba, then get it ordered(one of my personal best smokes),and they grow pretty short too.
I have pulled 4.5zips before from an automazar,but for the 18 hours of 600w it used,it wasn't worth it,both from a yield,and a quality.

So in your opinion you'd go with the 400watt over 600? Yeah when I asked about yeilds I'm not lookin to pull like a lb or anything lol few zips per plant of some really good smoke is all I want.

Welcome. Picking your first setup is always hard. Kits are nice like you said. A lot depends on your tent, I went cheap and it has a lot of areas light can leak in. are the corner's metal or plastic ? plastic breaks to easy and you don't want to drop your tent on the girls. sounds like your thinking about using duct booster fans wouldn't waste money on cheap duct fans, get a good inline fan, variable speed. Ona is good stuff but for the price you'd be better off with a carbon filter, cost more to start but cheaper in the long run. wouldn't advise using fishing line to LST with it can cut your girl. height depends on your ceilings figure plant + distance to light(don't want to fry them) and keep researching and reading.

You don't not need ducting really . The tent should have an intake and exhaust and you should have ducting on the outside not on the inside . You should be pumping air in and exhausting it out . I personally run a 78.99 hydro farm inline fan attached to ducting sucking fresh air in the tent . I run a ducting in the hole at the top of my tent down to a 440 cfm 6 inch carbon filter that sucks not only hot air off the light but cleans the smell too ... For you 4 inch fans and 16-20 inch carbon filters will do . No smell helps with heat and your plants will be fine and happy

So on the inside of your tent you have your carbon filter and ducting off that out to the top and the fan on the outside?
