Hi all im new to the site and after a big time drought in my area im ready to start growing for myself. Im using a plastic grow cabinet similar to the sterilite? not sure if thats the exact name of it... Im wanting to grow 2-3 girls in the comfort of my own home but i have a LOT of questions as this is my first time. Are CFL's my best bet? What size bulb would be sufficient for the number of plants ill be growing? Ill be using bagseed and hopefully im lucky enough to get a girl. (Im still waiting on germination) Can i use a drop style shoplight inside the cabinet with a single cfl to get a decent yield?
I plan on lining my cabinet with white contact paper and sealing the doors preventing light from entering or escaping. Will smell be a concern with that few plants? I havent cut a vent yet but i have been looking at small oscilating fans to promote stronger roots. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. thanks

I'm a newbie myself, so I'll just try to share a little of what I've learned here. Read the GrowFAQ. There is a lot of great info there. You can use cfl throughout the entire grow if you want. To get started use 6500k daylight cfl bulbs. The more light, the faster it will grow. I started my grow in a sterilite container with 3 clamp style shop lights. I used Y adaptors and was able to use 6 bulbs, although I could have got by with less. One light will probably get a seed going, but you will want to upgrade once your plants get going.

If you have any more questions, I'll try to help. But the FAQ is really one of your best sources of info, much better than me.

got ya! thanks for the help. Ive read some of the grow faq and i realize that every grow differs from another. Lots of helpful info. ive got the tall sterilite cabinet, its about 6ft tall, and im trying to figure out the correct setup. So I can get this bulb at my local hardware or lowes?

My bulbs are from walmart, but lowes or most any hardware store will have them. Somewhere on the package it should have a color temperature rating. 6500k is what you want to start with. They are also called "daylight" color, they look blue when they're on. Bathroom vanity lights are another way to be able to use lots of bulbs cheaply. Lowe's has a $10 3 bulb fixture. 6 feet tall is a pretty good height, you should be able to grow a nice plant or two in there.
