Hello riu, newb here and im kinda paranoid about electricity use. She got 2x 600 watt running on 240 volt. There like 3.2 amps. Both 12 hours a day during flower and 24 hr on veg. So i am considering a generator but am also thinking about the cost of running one with todays gas prices? Anyone know any alternatives to energy consumtion or a good quiet generator that works weell, or am i just being to paranoid and running on my own meter is going to be fine??????????????thanks and ++++++ for all f b

If the lights are 3.2 amps each then you should be fine. A normal electrical outlet in a house is 15 amps. If you start running to much power then you should trip the breaker. If the breaker does not trip then you are fine man.

yhea i know its safe and all. but im worried about raising eyebrows down at the local energy comp. and i want to know recommenfations for portable generators. i have been reading and it seems like it will be nothing but a hassle to go out and get gas every day and fill up a generator every 10 hours. i mean am i missing something. 2 600 watters is like 2000 running watts. so i need a 2500 i would guess. and i heard the ballist needs to be within 10 feet of plug in source. thats not poss. if i get a generator outside. so who has a generator and hows it work 4 u

Just curious, but how many plants you growin? Ask youself if you REALLY need a high power light for veg, many people just use cfls. bongsmilie

As far as the electric bill, my wife and I ran space heaters too much in December. Doubled our bill that month, from 150ish up to 320. I made sure I payed it on time, and I otherwise never heard a peep from them or the 5.0. Hope that helps....:blsmoke:

Unless you are turning your living room into a grow room I wouldn't stress on the electic usage attracting unwanted attention. The power company wants you to run as much as possible. That's how they get paid.

2x 600 watters. 8 t12 bulbs, 3 inline fans and about 4 little fans, oh and 3 more cfl's, 2 air conditioners and a dehumidifier

go solar, theres a how to make a solar generator thread here somewhere, just type in solar generator into the search bar.
its around $300 for a small one, but no energy costs after that, its a great idea longterm.

Why not turn off the hot water heater when not in use? I have an older one, and turn on the breaker in the morning for half an hour, then off.

Also, dont run your central house ac, just use the window shaker or a wall unit.

Doing those two things should save you the 2000w youre using for the lights.

Good luck
