I put my wallet in the hole so you guys can get a visual on how big it is, planning on filling the hole with my mix of Just Natural soil and Perlite, just wondering does it need to be bigger? also there is some clay type dirt near the bottom of the hole, will that affect my roots in growing? or will they not even reach that far? This location gets nearly perfect sunlight for its conditions. any suggestions will help!!:leaf::leaf::leaf:

If you dug that hole with that fireplace shouvel, my hats off to ya!

A lot of what I've been reading says folks are digging their holes 2ft x 2ft x 2ft. Bigger is better, to a point.

Looks like it need to be a little bit bigger imo.
atleast a 2x2 hole
And i would add some peat moss, blood meal, bone meal to your soil. Also some water retention crystals near the bottom of the hole. I found some at lowes called Soil Moist Granules.
Mixing some of your ground dirt into the hole with all the other amendments may help the plant not stress out as bad when it hits that clayish dirt near the bottom.
