New to Growing, any help.

Hey, I'm new to growing and just started to grow 5 Big Buddha Cheese plants in my wardrobe (2 foot x 3 1/2 foot x 8 foot), at the moment the plants are still small, and they will start to veg soon.

I'm using a 1000 HPS watt light and reflector, at the moment its near the top of the wardrobe and the plants are at the bottom im not giving them light for most of the day just some but ill be vegging soon and will have the light on for 20 hours and ff for 4 hours, but when i go to move the light down the temp will increase alot, i have a fan blowing around my room and the window open and its keeping the temp right but with the weather over here its very hard to try keep it between 72 - 85 F.

when i start to veg im hoping to close the warddrobe and drop the light and have it on longer, we will have an intake and outtake both around 6 inchs (with a carbon filter for smelly reasons) but im afraid the temp will be way to high does anyone have any suggestions on how i can lower it and keep it lowered during the light on stage.

im also thinking of giving my plants http://gardenerstips.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/baby-bio.jpg this has a very high nitrogen count thats why im going to use it for the vegging.

ill post pics up of the plants a.s.a.p and keep yous posted, all feed back is greatly thanked as its my first grow and im open to any advice.

No, 1000watt isnt "the best".

1. 600watters are more efficient (lumen to watt ratio)
2. Theres no way in hell youre going to be able to keep that cool in a wardrobe with no ventilation or an inline fan.
3. 1000watt would be apropriate for a 5x5 or 6x6 foot area.

So I would suggest buying a dimmable ballast from your local hydro store and turning the light (and heat) down to about 50%. Also if you have a reflector that can be hooked up to an inline fan, get that hooked up asap. If an inline isnt an option then you'll have to brainstorm on getting massive amounts of air running through that wardrobe.

Good luck :joint:

It is; space permitting. With a grow area that only 3.5'W x 2'D you're going to have big heat problems. The only sure way to lower heat in that kind of an area is a cooltube.

Woods is right. 1000 Watts is much too big for that little area. I run a 600 in the same space and have temp issues still. 85 isn't terrible either. It's grow-able. Not optimum, but they'll grow and flower nonetheless. Anything above that starts slowing growth though. Unless you use some kinda cooler or water cooling system, I'd see if I could get either
a.) a bigger room and keep the 1000 watter, or
b.) See if you can get a 600 watter in exchange somehow.

ye at the moment i have the wardrobe open with a 16" fan blowing into the wardrobe and around it (i dont have the fan blowing the plants just above) and the window open and it seems to be working fine but i know ill have problems when i go to veg and flower.

If i could get the heat down and get it to stay down would you still suggest getting a 600 watt light because i heard off alot of people and read on alot of places that the stronger the light the better it will be for the plants.

and if i bring them out into my room ill have huge problems with smells, but would i only get these when im going into the flowering stage?

thanks for the advice and im taking it in ^^

Okay. Your plants are still young, so get a large cfl (125w or 250w) for now. These don't generate as much heat as a HID. Then get yourself an aircooled reflector, connected to an exhaust fan, when it comes time to use your 1000w.
