New to edibles. Questions.

I went to the dispensary here in Illinois and bought some edibles, 2 chocolate bars. I had no idea about the dosage. The one I opened had 100mg, cut into 4 candy squares of 25mg each. I broke one of those in half, so about 12.5 mg. Then I broke off part of that. First time was probably 4 mg. I was stoned a bit but not a lot. The next day I took the rest of the square, so probably 8mg. I was high for hours. I can't imagine eating a 25mg square. For sleeping, when do you take it and how much? That was my reason for buying it. I took the 8mg around 4 pm and was really high at 8 pm. Advice?

Eat it about 45 mins before bed...it will take a little trial and error to find a dose suitable enough that you sleep well, but are not " thc" hangover" when you awaken.

I either vape or eat edibles every night before bed for my restless leg syndrome.

For edibles, I eat them about 45 minutes (as stated by @FastFreddi) before I go to sleep. I usually read a book during the time I eat it and turn off the light.

My dosing isn't an exact science as I make my own edibles so I'm unsure of exact quantities, but all I can say if 8mgs was enough to mess you up good for a few hours, it seems it'll be a reasonable dose to stick with for now. After time, you can adjust as you please.

I do recommend though to sticking with a consistent dose for at least a few days to a week before blindly changing it up. This way you can get a baseline of what's working and what isn't.
 
Most edibles are dosed at 10mg, so a 25 is very high for a newbie. Make sure to check with your budtenders for proper dosing, but it's all just trial and error anyway. One of the big problems with legalization is having stronger and stronger products with little customer education. You did great by dividing them so much, just keep doing that until you find your sweet spot. Your tolerance will rise as you go, just listen to your body and don't give up if you have some bad/too strong of experiences.
