I am currently making a wooden box to fit my Aerogarden in. I'm confused about the ventilation. I plan on getting a small carbon filter and an in line blower fan. I understand that I'm going to put the carbon filter near the top of the box and the fan near the bottom. What else do I need to know and what are the best and cheapest types of cooling fans. I wish I could use a computer fan blower/cooler, but I don't know how to power a computer plug from the fan.

Any help would be great!:peace:

cool ill search it, its probably at the local radio shack. All you need to do is mount the carbon filter at the top with the fan facing out right? Its surprising how good the carbon filters work, no wonder the cheapest one I can find with a fan is around $100

u can also use an old computer power supply - a really crappy one will power 20 fans easily... all you do once you have ripped a power supply from a crappy computer is short 2 of the pins in the 20-pin connector (green wire to any black wire with a paperclip) then whenever you plug it in, it will turn on... you can wire up all your fans, then connect them to the 12v power from the PSU... so when you plug in the psu - the fans will all come on... the best place for cheap pc fans is: http://www.excesssolutions.com/ - they have some very powerful ones there, watch the amp ratings, the higher they are the louder the fan usually, add up the amps and compare with the sticker on the psu for total amps on 12v rail. ;-)

when you say have the filter at the top, mine would be at the top of the box...I planned on buying one of the carbon filters with the attached fans...so basically I would be placing the filter in the box, and the fan blowing air outside of the box.. does that seem right?

my only other problem is fresh air. I'm in the basement and its placed in a small spot tucked into a corner. Theirs not to much fresh air in the basement...theirs a few small windows down there but its not going to get complete fresh air all the time... is that a problem at all?

thanks for all of your help guys

ok ive drawn a rubbish pic for you on paint lol
hope this explains it for you.
as you can see the filter is at the top and is just blowing the air out of the grow area, as for the intake i just have it taking air from the room that the grow box is in and it works fine for me :)
i actually have my filter blowing out of a window but u dont really need to.

hope this helps yorty :joint:
