New roots from branch(not cloning)

So, i HAD a pet bunny, after an incident with said bunny,i was left 3 bare branches the biggest was about 7 inches, on the lower part. im not set up for clones or even wanting to,so i grabbed the longest branch and cut the tip and, dipped it in rooting powder and shoved it in the ground whilst still attached to the main stem. My hope here is to make good use of a bare limb that would just suck energy without a return. Im hoping that will form roots give the plant even more nutrients and whatnot. i tried googling this, but all i came up was shit for clones. Ideas? opinions?

Look up layering or root layering....fairly common in the horticulture world in general. It has a chance....
