New room, first time

time out of mind

I just put in my first grow room and have a group of plants that I moved from Rockwool to soil about 4 days ago.

I've helped a friend in the recent past with two rooms, but for now I am flying solo by the seat of my plants.

The plants rooted badly in the rockwool. That is, tiny roots only after 3 weeks. Probably too much watering by your's truely.

They started looking so tired that I decided to plant them. It seemed like fresh soil would be worth a shot. Otherwise I think they would have died.

It looks like 13 are surviving in the soil. (one gallon pots until I transfer them to something larger in a month or so).

For now they are under one lamp 28 inches from the plants. I've had it on 18/6 but after reading I think I'm going to 24 hours light for the veg stage for this group. I guess if the next rounds get bigger I can adjust the lights back to 18/6 to save $$.

I'm told that the fresh soil I have, which is premium soil from a "grow" store is nutritous enough that I don't need food in the water for about 2 weeks. I'm using straight soil. No mix.

However I am using a root stimulator in the water when I water. The water (with root juice) is ph set at about 6.5.

I'm spritzing the leaves with bottled water, top and bottom, also at about 6.5 No food in that water.

I am interested in any observations, but the one question I would appreciate input on is what height should the lamp be from the babies for this early stage. [600 watt bulb]

Also, are there any recommendations on plant foods for the soil, and for spritzing the leaves, and when would it be advisable to start adding food to the water?

Great board. Thanks. I'm learning a lot.
