Hi guys,

I am growing 5 plants in soil under HPS 400w.. recently i have noticed that new growth on my plants are pale in color, almost pure yellow.. My plant is about 5 weeks old (Veg 4weeks 5 days, flower 4 days).. pictured below is one of my plants, as far as i can tell, all 5 plants are starting to show the same problem.. if you compare the lower leaves to the new ones, the difference in color and size is noticable.. is there something I am doing wrong?

I read a few plant problems posts, and I tried fixing it yesterday by adding epsom salts to my 1ml Bio Bizz Grow and 1ml Bio Biz Bloom solution to 1L of water (as i think it could be magnesium deficiency.. but yet I have not notice any changes..

The picture below is one of my plants, if you need more pics and information, do let me know..

please can someone help a newbie grower?

the HPS is in a cooltube, with an air conditioner blowing into the grow room.. temps are around 70f-85f... however, there is no exhaust fan.. just some holes for the air that enters the grow room from the air conditioner to push out..

Lights are about 6inches away but when i did the back of hand test, it didnt feel hot for my hand so i was guessing it would be safe for the plants..

could that be the reason?

should I increase the height of the lights?

I also forgot to add that i have 2 fans in the grow room. 1 to circulate air and 1 pointed towards the hole to aid in exhausting air

These look overfed, even your initial lower fan leaves are burnt...I would reduce by 50%.

Good luck!

Its not overfertilized, otherwise there would be burning on the tips and the leaves would claw.
I personally think its Magnesium. Try follar feeding with epsom salt for a few days since you already added some to your soil.

that looks hot mate, how close are your lights and whats your temps, you got fans going?
This is right ,yellow new growth due to heat stress.

temps are around 70f-85f... however, there is no exhaust fan..
That s too hot 85 and i think it gets a little hotter than that, as it warms up outside it warms up inside (spring) and this is causing the pale new growth.

zinc def. is extremely rare.
Looks like cal\mag def. and some over radiance from the light.

Sudden overfertilization cause burnt tips but gradual overfertilization cause somewhat similar symptoms.
As you'r using soil I would recommend not going over 1.2mS EC for a week or two and see if it helps.

i have listened to all of the advice you guys gave me, so i decided to foiliar feed plain water with epsom salts and also increase the height of my hps to about 12 inches away.. we will see how it progresses..

the attached pic is of all my plants growing (before i started foilar fed them)..

I will update you guys on its progression

I stand corrected.
