New grower, it’s going well I just had a few (a lot) of questions.

Hello everyone happy to be here and this is my first grow. The large ones were transplanted today into 5 gal from 1.3 gal.

For lights I’m running an agromax 550 3000k and a spiderfarmer sf4000. Trying to keep a DLI of around 25-30 for the time being in terms of lights strength. For the 1 gal pots I was using a mix of roots organic, FFOF, and happy frog all in equal parts. For the transplant into 5 gallons I decided to amend the soil abit with some vermiculite and more perlite and a tiny bit of dolomitic lime.

They are currently 30 days old for the large ones, I feel they have grown well. I do have a fungus gnat problem, and I feel that has slowly hurt the plants over time. I am working on it, and have been thinking about using sand after underdosing an aza max soil drench by mistake.

If anyone’s interested the strains are Skunk XL RQS?, Master Kush, Green Crack from ILGM and Jigglers from exotic genetix. Only worried about the Jigglers as that is a more exotic strain and im new, I could not find any information about it besides it’s already exotic and obscure lineage.

I have not really fed nutrients until last week for the large ones because I figured they had started to deplete soil, but I mixed it weakly at 600PPM and still burnt them so I just use plain ph’d distilled water with hydroguard root innoculant now. I likely won’t nutrient feed them unless a deficiency presents orwhen I put them into flower I will definitely feed them something.

Any pointers would be great, I noticed some of my smaller plants that were germinated more recently have some funky stuff going like stunted and strange rumpled leaves, I figured the soil was just too nutritious because they are young. They are starting to explode in growth finally after adjusting.

I also Fimmed the large ones once, anything else I should do? I was thinking about lst but I don’t know if I can bend the main stalk anywhere at this point and what my options may be. Thanks everyone good vibes

I've bent them much bigger and thicker than that. Just pick the spot where you want to bend, and pinch around the stem in that spot. Then slowly bend while pinching, and working that spot. Just be careful.

Edit: it's not ideal to do it that way though. Start training while they're kinda small. Less worries that way.
 
Ok thanks guys, I’m not even sure what I would want to do with them. Bend them over and grow them in a rainbow? Haha. But for real, I realized I should have Fimmed them earlier, they would be much bushier. I will likely fim the younger guys earlier.

Should I not top the eldest ones anymore? Or should I do it again? I’m worried the plant won’t be able to support its fat head if I do that, or should I do that and just stake them up and support them? I’m not sure what would be the best way to train them at this point if I should even really train at all.

I will keep fimming the youngest for now, to make sure they grow abit bushier. I will read into gentle lst for the eldest but I can’t see doing anything other than tying some lateral branches down, does that help?

Thanks again, I’ve been thinking about the best way to train it for max yield, as do most people I assume. Staking it and Fimming them 1-3 more times should do well. I figure I’ll just treat them like a classic inverted Christmas tree then if they take on that shape, I have a net ready if it comes to that. Maybe net staking and trellises to achieve a kind of scrog.

If you're gonna scrog them, I'd do it now.

I think that’s the plan. It will achieve that small bit of LST I want also, thanks for all the fast advice definitely was not a mistake taking the jump to post here. If all goes well I’ll hopefully be posting more pics as they mature!

Cool man. Don't be afraid to ask questions. I don't know a whole lot, but I'm willing to help with what I do know. Best advice I can give is go thru the threads on the forum. Majority of the questions have already been asked and answered. Just whatever you do, don't ask about flushing, or yield on your plant. Lol... it'll start a shit show that you'll be the main star of!

Check out mosquitoe bits to help with those fucking gnats, been there, not an infestation but aggressive and aggravated. Maybe try one strain at a time to help you dial things in, 3 new strains is alot of work not knowing each unique requirements. But... learning is learning and not being afraid to do your own research and then asking for help is not a bad thing as most people on these type of forums are happy to help.

Good stuff I’ve been looking into all that and just tried the aza max today but made it abit too dilute. I have been doing some fun research into all aspects of the plant, horticulture is fun. I’m growing 4 strains! I guess I should have just picked one but I like variety. Some were a gift also.

If you don't get rid of the fungus gnats before you flip to flower, you'll find flowering to be exciting, 1 oz Monterey Spinosad/1gallon water and dose them each time you water. Also let them get a bit dryer.

They make my life a lot easier. I don't worry much about bugs, since they're there. They've gotten rid of spider mites too when I had them like 2 1/2 years ago. And they'll take out thrips and other shit also. Love my little helpers.

Agreed, my hydro tent has thrips starting, not sure predatory insects will work in hydro though. I have visions of dead bugs floating in the res. Lol
