New grow, had some setup questions.

Hey guys still fairly new to the forums, been trolling for a while.

Starting a new grow fairly soon and had a few questions.

First off is the room I will be using is a storage room that goes off of my bedroom. Good size for what I am doing. I have been studying light sources for a while, I fell upon LEDs because of the obvious difference in heat and Electricity use. The heat is a problem to me just because of thermal foot print. Is this really something i should worry about or is that mainly a stoner myth?

Next is still relating to the lighting problem. If thermal foot print isn't a problem than what lighting should I look into? 400w HPS seems popular but is it too much for a 2-4 plant set up (plants shooting for max yield of course).

Last if anyone knows certain fetilizer products and soil products that are good that would be helpfull. And overall any tips would be great. I will be doing a diary when I start the grow, any help in advance is apreciated.

...the best way to cool your lights off to the touch is to get an aircooled or water cooled hood.

As far as a growing technique....
You want a quality soil , I use Fox farm's ocean forest, or Happy Frog.
Start using organic teas. Very easy!
What you'll need:
Seabird guano, bat guano, earth worm castings, kelp meal (or liquid seaweed), molessas, a bubble stone and bubble pump, a paint strainer. 5 gallon bucket.
What to do:
Get a couple of gallons of water from tap....let set on bubbles over night to dechlorinize it, then pH balance the water to 6.5....take a couple tablespoons of each (worm castings, seabird, bat, kelp, molessas) and put inside paint strainer and tie shut...hang the mix over the bubble stone to make movement/activity in the water....let set for 24-48 hours....put 2 cups of this per gallon to new dechlorinized pH balanced water, then water in once weekly.

...you'll want to back up off of the earthworm castings and the seabird guano in mid flower to eliminate nitrogen avalibility.
...the molessas and liquid seaweed are liquid , however, still use table spoon measurements.
...stop giving tea @ weeks 5 for an 8 week strain, or allow a couple weeks to flush (not so important organically but, I prefer to save the $)

...if you do decide to go with soil, I'd stick with organic fertlizers as a newbie. If you try giving your soil chemical fertilizers you'll have more problems then you'll be able to keep up with.IMO

Yeah i gotcha, is there any off the shelf fertilizers. That technique seems a little advanced if you know my meaning, a lot to screw up it seems. I have heard the fox farms stuff is good so i am probably gonna use that.

fox farm is a good brand to get.. ive been thinking of grabbing some for my hydro.
as far as lighting goes, a 400w seems good for you, as long as you got a good cooling system..
for max yield try low stress training or crowning them!

Yeah thats the main thing im worried about, because the room is right under the room, unfinished type storage room. So is that gonna be noticeable to the cops....

Also what do you recommend for a cooling system

well, if the room on top of this room is airconditioned, you might not have a problem..just whatch where the exhaust air goes..
where im from, you dont really have to worry bout heat signatures much. they do stroll by with the choppers but by the time they do everyone knows theyre out n about..
for cooling a couple of fans will do fine. get a good exhaust system too.. you dont want to be circulating the hot air inside only.

Well that room is on the top floor, I was thinking about sending my exhaust into the attic, it is connected from that room.

I figure if it spread around a bit than the heat wont get bad. Also most attics have a out vent. So I am thinking that is less of a problem.

Last question was about a good soil mixture again. I know i have heard fox farm is good. Is that something that i can use straight. With my nutes that i have selected as well.
