New Air Pump smell......it's nasty!

I got a new Elemental O[SUP]2[/SUP] 1268 GPH pump and it reeks when running. I assume that it's the lubricant inside of it, if not, the rubber diaphragm. No way in hell I wanna put that through the recirculating DWC setup yet I'm building for a buddy. I know it is spewing out particles of that smell because I cup my hand over the output for a few seconds and then walk out of the bathroom then smell my hand and it really smells of it, even minutes later. I don't want to imagine particles of that shit going into the air stones and nutrient solution. I've got it shut in the bathroom with the exhaust fan running to do a burn-in run to hopefully help dissipate the smell it gives off. It smells like a damn tire shop!!

So is there a quicker way to rid this smell from it? Like open it up and wipe the excess lubricant off of the inside parts, or wash the diaphragm? I also noticed the air is quite warm, does anyone do anything to chill the air?? I imagine coiling up 10 feet or more air tubing in the reservoir to chill it down before it reaches the air stones. My buddy agrees to add a chiller for the solution before summer rolls in.

thanks
