need help with nutrients

When I ordered my grow light from humboldt nutrients they sent me a free 40oz. sample of a "master a", a 4 oz sample of "master b" and some big up powder. On the bottles it says to add master a to reservoir first to avoid nutrient lock-up. I am growing in soil so the instructions they gave me do not help. Could someone tell me how long i should wait in between to avoid nutrient lock-out:confused:

i'd wait 2 or 3 weeks after sprouting to start with the veg nutes, then maybe a week after you induce flowering, then with like 3 weeks to go use the big up then do a nice flush with 5 days to a week to go.

You should be able to use these with no problem. Generally a Part A / Part B nutrient are meant to be used together. ALTHOUGH you are not to mix them together... you add them one at a time to the reservoir. So... if you are growing in Soil then get a gallon (or whatever the nutes say is the amount of water for the sample) and put the part A in that water first and mix... then add the part B to the water.

The reason they gave you the Big UP powder (I'm guessing here) is that it's PH Up.... and they expect that the nutrients (A & B) will lower the PH below the 5.5 lower limit for hydro. This means the solution would be too "acidic".

Now.... you can easily mix the Part A& B in the water and use a meter to check the PH and the PPM. The PPM is important depending on the "age" of your plants. If they are seedlings or young Veg stage then it's likely the PPM will be too high. Use your meter... the PPM for young veg probably shouldn't be higher then 600 PPM.

Usually an imbalance in PH is what locks out nutes... and usually a bigger problem with hydro which is why they are giving you instructions for Hyrdo.

Now ... if you are growing in soil and don't have a PH or PPM meter then I would suggest you use TWICE the amount of water they suggest and add the part A & B and skip the UP. Then water the plants with this solution. This sounds right in my mind... however I don't grow in soil... so if a soil grower comes along and corrects me ... I'd listen to them :)

If it were me, I'd give those nutes to someone who grows in hydro.

Here's a great way to go for soil:

Vegging: Peter's "Jack's Classic" 20-20-20.

Flowering: Peter's "Jack's Classic Blossom Booster" 10-30-20

Here's where you can order via mail or the Internet:

http://www.jacksclassic.com/

Do not exceed 1/4 strength throughout the grow or you will burn the plants.
