What I have been doing for years, I called "topping", but after reviewing the post by Demon, I've been FIM'ing all along, and there is NO WAY that I would cut 100% of a new growth completely off. I don't use scissors & all that, I just pinch the new growth. I start at 10"(inches) tall, and about every 30 days afterwards. Some plants has 40 or more tips to fim, it's takes some time, and I do it in a pattern, 1/4th/one side, then another side, so I don't forget what I've done & not done. This causing stress to some extent, but stress is not necessarily a bad thing. The wind tears & bruises the cell structure, and the plant grows back stronger. That's why excercising your plant is important. Or allowing the soil to get fairly dry, forcing the root system to reach out further for moisture, causing bigger root system, increasing food intake, causing faster, healthier growth. For organic growers, to assist in giving your plant the ability to repair & regenerate it's self, use Aloe Vera Juice. This simple plant juice actually repairs & regenerates plant cells. Add molasses, seaweed & fish emulsion to that feeding, and you'll have some very happy & healthy Ladies. Of course, green sand should always be used for a mineral balance.
