I saw this hydro system on Ebay eBay: BIG 4 PLANT HYDROPONIC SYSTEM! HYDROPONICS BRAND NEW! (item 200112523046 end time May-29-07 16:58:08 PDT)
and I want to duplicate it. I could just buy it but I already had all the conponents. Anyway, I need Operational Details, such as how full to fill it? , As the roots grow down, can they be submerged in the nutes since it is highly oxygenated? , Does the air pump run 24/7?, etc. Also, Can seedlings started in soil be transferred to this style system? Would I attempt to transplant the seedling with it's soil into the rockwool cubes or should I try to wash away some or all of the soil so it will fit in the cubes. Should I use bigger rockwool cubes that have a small square hole on top (normally used to replant smaller cubes) to transplant the seedling undistrubed? Jeez, this turned into, like a four part question, sorry! Oh well, answer whatever parts you are able, Thanks. BTW..This site is GREAT! A BIG THANK YOU is in order to those that run it and the members that make it work!!

sure you can build this at home. to move from soil to rockwool is a great idea if you want to kill your plants, start in the rockwoll straight away;)
and on the air pump check what the rest does, there tonnes of grow journals;)

Put hose in container. Turn on hose. Turn off when water level is where you want it.

Uhh.. if the roots go down they will be submerged . If they couldn't be no one would use this type of system.

Yes

I suppose you could. Might mess up your pump if the soil washes off. It might be easier to just start new seedlings.

"Big" is a relative word, it seems.

If you're looking to do BIG plants in a DWC...I would suggest building a 5 gal bucket set up with a mesh pot inside of it and skip the tupperware party.

good luck however you decide to go...

wop, like those setups advanced hydroponics sells for 100 bucks a piece and you can build for 15 each:D but that is what would be needed if you don't want to go SOG in a tiny hydro setup:)

Why don't you try this methos instead, it dosent need electricity for pumps and all the other crap that can fail on you. It looks like it rocks, and has some great yeilds too.
Peace
