I don't get it - did someone tell you that 28 hours would cause the plant to flower?
The plant will show sex when mature with 12 hours of dark every night.

yea bro... put that thing under 12 on 12 off and you'll know in a few days. unfortunately you may have just made a hermie.

srry btw i meant 8 hours..... lol
so you meant 16 hours on 8 hours off??? if so and the plant is ready for flowering then move to 12 on 12 off and withing a few weeks(maybe sooner) you should be able to tell the sex. as far as im aware the only reliable way to tell the sex is during the flowering stage of its life.

You can tell even in the 16-8 stage.. The pistils will show female or they will "grow balls" if a male. Stress in bloom stage can "make" hermies.

what is debatable? you take a clone from 24hrs light[veg], then cut the light back to 18on-6off (or if you prefer 16on-8off)[mid-veg] , then 12/12[bloom]. {i go 24hrs on , straight to 12/12, but thats me). males can show in the 18-6 phase, i've had them show in the 18-6 phase personally. hermies usually show in the bloom phase. a hermie plant condition could be genetic, or brought on by stress (mildew, heat/cold, light conditions, pollination, drought...). a male plant grows balls, i dont got the scientific lingo to make it sound good, but basically those balls turn to pollen sacs that open up. a female plant has these two little pistils that shoot out from the glands at the stalk that are not accompanied by "balls"(these could still potentially hermie for reasons i gave above). If all environmental conditions pass go, then the only reason for a hermie would be genetics- cloned from a hermie donor. also feminized seeds tend to hermie i have heard. i mean no disrespect but what is it we are debating?

pistils dont show until switched to 12/12 in my experience mate. never seen them before that and i veg for up to four months.

Hmm i think somebody should google marijuana preflowers then :) Preflower do show up after the plant matures (4-6weeks) that how u know if its mature yet or no.If your plants are sick and nutrient deficient/burned then preflowers will take longer to show. Maybe your plants are 2 sick?

Okay guys, I'll put an end to the debate. (I've even circled the preflower for y'all) That's one of my own plants, taken at about 4 weeks veg,(18/6) and clearly a female, as evidenced by that baby calyx showing....
yes it may be a pre flower mate, but it is not a pistil,a pistil is a white hair in my experience, dont you agree?

Plants will show pistils before 12/12 if mature - at least 75% of my plants show pistles prior to being switched into flower.

for anybody first time growing i would do 12/12 to see what happens and see all details before u start 16/8 18/6 20/4 or even 24. so you can observe to see how a plants sex.. once you figure out everything then try different experiments. and leaving the plant in 24 hours darkness doesnt make it a hermie.. you can leave a plant in the dark for 48 hours and nothing bad will happen.. it just wont grow. i've heard these technique works.. but i tried it and never anything happened plants just became limp... so best bet for veg is 18/6 and then straight to flower 12/12 or just go straight 12/12 there was a thread proving that you can get the same amount of yield if not better with the 12/12 compare to vegging it at 18/6 then flowering 12/12.
