Ok so i got my new grow room set up.

60x60x78 " grow tent
1 billyponics 6 plant site dwc drip system
1 5xdwc bucket system
1 400 hps light (Mh bulb when/if i make it to flowering ha)
2x wal mart grow lights
small oscilating fan (need a bigger one)
Timer
Humboldt 3 stage nutrients

Ok so Im gonna be posting pictures soon as i get all my new seeds sprouted,Right now I only have one plant in one of my systems and it got ass raped by spider mites due to me forgetting to spray it with my organic pesticide. So i'd be embarrased to post pictures right now haha. After upgrading from my shitty closet set up Im feeling good though . How far away should I have my 400w hps light though from my plants? my tent is 100% reflective and it is extremely bright!!!!!!! the whole room is lit up . >< I really want this grow to be worth the money i've invested. And being a newbie Im gonna need lots of help from you guys ! Right now hanging my new light properly is my biggest concern,But im sure ill have alot more questions and kinda looking for some people I can trust to help me mentor me , as I jumped right into the grow scene with hydroponics =\ and im finding it to be quite hard. So please tell me the proper height away from my plants to hang the light and toss out any suggestions /additions to improve my grow tent I'll greatly appreciate it :D Also those pest ate away alot of my of my plant's healthy roots but its still kicking just has a extremely bad claw going on. Will my plant more then likely survive this ?

Hold your hand under your light and move it to where it feels barely warm, like the sun on your face. That's where your plants tops want to be, if not a few inches below there to allow for growth spurts.
If you already got hit with mites you've got a decision to make. Do I want to be 100% sure they're never coming back, or do I want to flower this plant?
I'd say you've got a 50/50 chance of getting a plant hit with mites to flower without a recurrance, and you're almost definitely going to end up getting them again once you get them once. You probably had them for a while before you actually noticed, and altho most of them are on the plant they spread out over your whole grow area, even house.
If I were you, I'd give it a moment of silence and slaughter this one, and bug bomb and spider mite treat my grow room. It's always better to lose one plant and save the rest than save 1 plant and ruin a later, larger, crop.

First of all is your light reflector ventilated or just out in the open? Next, how big is the plant that got hit with mites? If it is big and still has alot of healthy vegetative growth then it might be worth saving, if it is little then ditch it and start over. Now you need to make sure that there are NO MORE MITES before you continue or they will come back and do it all over again. You can mess around with pyrethreum bombs, Neem Oil and other sprays and such that will probably never kill them completely and you will keep battling till you give up and smoke dead mites! I am going to give you some information that you should remember for the rest of your growing carreer: IF YOU WANT TO COMPLETELY KILL SPIDERMITES THE FIRST TIME THEN YOU NEED A PRODUCT CALLED "FORBID"!!! It is made for roses but it will completely wipe mites off the face of the planet. It is not organic, not cheap and not safe for use on plants that are late in flowering so you have to kill those little fuckers when the plants are young. You can find a large bottle that will last a lifetime @ this site: http://www.rosemania.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/product147.html
I realize that it is expensive to buy in bulk but trust me when I say that IT WORKS! You can also buy single application doses on ebay because other people have figured out that IT WORKS and that they should make a little change on the side helping people that don't want to buy the big bottle. I am not one of those people trying to sell this or promote a product for my gain, I am someone that had mites a long time ago and was turned on to it from a friend and IT WORKED the first time.

Thanks for all the imputs , I'm not 100% sure it was spider mites but it was some kinda small insect that looks like a gnat kinda , and it did go a week or so with out me noticing, ive heavily treated my grow room ,ANd Its only like 9 inches tall atm I can't flower it because it is to soon and well I got alot more sights to put plants in when my new seeds sprout .=\ may end up just slashing that one and starting fresh with these ,you learn as you go i guess .thanks for all the suggestions and imputs also my light doesnt have any ventilation its just in the open =\ but it doesnt seem to to hot.... Im a get a couple big oscilating fans to put in the tent ive currently got one and the a/c in the room running full blast and the tempature in the tent is staying at about 70-80ish
