My friend's first setup

Hey whats up. First for my friend to grow and has minimal experience in gardening/botany, but he is under a budget among other things. He knows people who have done a lot research, past first growers, and veterans might disagree with some of my friend's choices for doing something in a particular way, but I promise he has his reasons. My friends wanted to see about the supplies that he has, the capability of it working, and what to do for the highest possible yield. My friend's setup room is approx. 3x2x5.

My friend already placed 6 2.5g-4g pots in the space and they fit perfectly, one directly aligned with the others, all in a tight fit in the covering the bottom floor room space. So 6 is possible, is this too many for a friend's first grow? They will not be spaced out.
My friend bought Scott's Hyponex with .7% nitrogen feeding for 4 months. He know this is not the best medium and that there are better options out there, but he had his reasons. The only other choice he had was earth gro organic brand and mixing the potting soil and its steel manure blend to form a nice medium. Now, looking back this probably would have been a better option, but it wasn't the option he chose. He also has tomato plant food for nutrients. I know there are better options out there, but this is what he got. From what I read these options will work just fine.

Now for the lighting he did this pretty unconventionally for reasons that are known to him. All that will be used is cfl lighting but a lot of them.
He has 4 cfl lights that are screwed on the ceiling. They are at 4200k and about 1k lumens per. My friend has realized they aren't going to be doing much but a little contribution to veg, but hes not wasting them.

Per plant said friend has 6 pulley cfl lights to adapt with growth making 18 total. Each light is at 30 watts, 125 watt eq at 2700k at 2000 lumens each. Theres a bar that goes across the room and the pulleys will be attached to this. 7 all together. The last one, in the center, will be one 125w eq 1000w, 2700k, 10,000 lumens. This will be raised up down during growth.

He plans on using all 2700k lighting all at once from veg to flower just relying on the light cycles. Does less lighting on the veg and then adding more lights on the flower, all 2700k, have a positive effect on yield or potency?

He won't have any fans in the room since there will not be any room. He will be opening and closing the door to the room very frequently.

He is not painting the walls or putting anything on them.

My friend is worried about the humidity. The mean humidity to the outdoors, yes this will be indoors (but that you have an idea),
is normally 90%. This is very high and won't be a problem during veg state but during close to harvest on the flower there might be problems that arise. Getting dehumidifier is out of the question, anything that can be done about this? The seeds are mold resistant seed but will that really help the buds or just during veg state?

The seeds are high yield, indica dominant.

Most everything else will be technique and this about covers it for his design room. Everything should work just fine from the information given right?

Thanks.

Went the whole thread as "your friends" grow room then right at the end, "my room" :-/

Anyway, im a noob myself so don't take my advice as gospel but a few things..

Tomato feed is usually K heavy which may suffice for flowering but "your friend" will want something with higher N for the vegging period.

Fans. Get some. Not only for air circulation but that breeze os the equivalent of hitting the gym for your plants. It will help the stem strengthen allowing it to handle the wait of the heavy buds youre hoping for.

Lighting. I use cfls myself. Still on my first grow but seeing good results so far. You mentioned lowering and raising the lights during the grow. CFLs don't penetrate well and should be kept as close to the plant as possible. Mine are about 2-3 inches away and i have zero sign of light burn and an abundance of healthy foliage.

The walls. If he/you don't want to fork out for mylar just paint them FLAT white. Its works nearly/just as well as mylar. Your plants will be grateful.

Hope this helps. Happy growing.

My friend can answer all these questions, but uh, he's out at the moment. It's just me. And I don't partake in such activities. Edit: my friend said that apart from the lack of ventilation and air circulation, lack of odour control, the four cfl's "screwed into the ceiling" proving pointless, incorrect cfl spectrum, possible incorrect npk ratios, and the fact that 18 thirty watt cfls equals 3 per plant and 90 watt per plant which is insufficient, you should be fine.

LMAO that's funny, he went back and edited it after you posted that too lol. The whole time I was reading this thing anyway i was like, this guy is really emphasizing the fact that his friend is doing all this, is he sure that its not just him covering up?

My "friend" lives in Tacoma so the humidity is the same. He thinks your begging for mold/mildew. Don't get greedy. Subtract a couple plants and get some ventilation in there, as your "friends" idea to just keep opening and closing the door isn't going to work.

Yeah not getting greedy is a good idea. Ill put it down to four.

Im sorry each cord has three outlets with two lights on each outlet and htere are six cords. So thats six per plant and there will be thirty six lights plus one 125 watt cfl 400 eq out at 10,000 lumens. I think I might switch it to four plants but still keep the same lighting. That should be plenty light for a great yield if I do things right? From what I read 2700k will be fine for vegging and flower right? I mean there's a better cleaner way to do it, but im not doing it that way. Itll work. Yeah I thought about the npk ratios but I was also told it would be fine. Four cfls can go yeah, but the ventilation and humidity will be a problem. I don't know what im going to do about humidity, I really don't think the cfl lights is going to bring down the humidity down that much but i dunno.

I gave up on the friend thing I don't care.

lol theres a one point star for the rating on the forum post.

It will work, it might not be optimal, but hey we all didn't start with an unlimited budget right? Just do the best with what you have, hang around here and get advice as you go. Have fun. 1 stars is a bit harsh, I'll rate it 5 and hopefully some others can too and get it up a bit :)
