My first grow log

I'm a brand new member and grower. I wanted to keep a grow log, and I figured I might as well keep it here.

Here is my first grow:
I have a 342watt high output flourescent by Hydrofarm over 2 pots. One with miracle grow organic choice and one with scotts premium potting soil (I will use Fox Farm next time, but didnt have $$$ right now for $20 dirt). I mixed in some perlite in each.

I sprouted 2 seeds from some bud that I picked up on Mt Zion in Jamaica (really REALLY good bud). I put the mir gro in dirt on Aug 3rd and the Scotts on the 5th. Mir gro broke soil the first day I put it under light, but the scotts hasn't shown itself yet.

The only thing I've done so far is water them. I did put a capful of some Superthrive in my watering can in hopes of putting down some good roots.

My growroom is not ideal. Its an outdoor utility closet and we're in the dead heat of summer. I haven't bothered to put a thermometer out there, but its close to 100 degrees outside everyday. My next addition will be a fan when I make it to the store. I know its not optimum, but by the time I get to flowering it should be much cooler out.

Advice is appreciated. I'll try to log on at least once a week with an update.

welcome to the site and good luck on the grow man.so far so good...just keep an eye on the mg organic stuff..ive used it before mixed with perlite and peat moss.the batch i got had a bug problem...stuff was flying out the bag the second time i opened it.and its kinda harse on seedlings..having all those nutes in it.but if it gets past the seeling phase just fine then your golden..and yeah 100 degree temps is bad for them..had the same problem in my grow box...and then the lights will add more heat...and if anyone tells you that cfl's wont put off much heat...they are full of it..took 4 fans just to get mine to 91 degrees...and i know others will say this..but next time..dont grow from bagseed.you never know what your getting.every strain has different needs and you never know what your gonna get from bagseed.ive grown from random seeds out of the same bag and got all different plants.the time,money,and effort isnt worth it on random seeds..there are a couple really good seed banks out there.i only buy my seeds,get them online,shipped to the USA with no hassles.my last order i got 4 seeds...worldwidemarijuanaseeds.com..they do single seeds or bulk.i like to order 1-2 differnt strains at a time.on average the strains i get go for 2.50-8.00 a seed.id rather spend 20 bucks on killer named strains and a decent grow setup...then the bud is 100 times better.plus you can get femmed seeds...100% fem plants every time...it sucks to spend 1-2 months growing a plant for it to turn male

Ditto. Nix the MG. Flies right out of the bag. I immediately switched to Fox Farms Ocean Forest and it's worth every penny. $20 over the life of your grow is pennies/day. Soil is critical to success. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the advice guys. I'll definently get the fox farm and order my seeds next time. I just started a new job last week (as in haven't gotten a paycheck yet) but my mother in law also decided to let me indefinently borrow her enormous growlight. A friend of a friend is suppossed to hook me up with some mental floss clones but not for a few more weeks.
In the mean time, I just got back from my honeymoon in Jamaica with these seeds...I figured why not. I don't even bother keeping seeds normally but these are special. I do know that these seeds thrived outdoors in a tropical environment. Hot, humid, lots of water? Or is that bad logic?

Well, the Scotts sprouted a ton of shrooms last night. I'm new at this, but I assume fungus is not good. So I went and got myself a bag of Ocean Forest this morning. I hadn't been to my hydroponics store before...I like it there, and its just down the street! I hadn't gotten any flies in the Miracle Grow, but I transplanted both seedlings anyways. I should have just gotten the Fox Farms to begin with. It even feels like better soil. I watered them into the new soil with a touch of superthrive to help them cope.

So I am totally overwhelmed with nute choices. I don't want to buy 9 different bottles. I was thinking more like one nute for veg and one for flower. I know I have a good three weeks or so before I need to feed them, so I am starting my research now. I was thinking fish emulsion. My uncle uses that with some good soil and keeps an awesome orrganic vegetable garden.

I know I need high nitrogen, which is the first number on the bottle for veg. Should the other numbers be low during veg or does it matter? I was looking at Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 or maybe Fox Farms Marine Cuisine 10-7-7. I'll probably go back to the hydro shop and talk with a real live person when I go to buy it but I want to have some idea what he's talking about when I go in. Is there a really good crash course nute thread that you recommend? Thanks guys.

fox farms soil is great...they also make grow and bloom nutes also.which is a good way to go as this company and a couple other companies...from canada..test and use their products on mj..so they have the best mixes for what we need...also advanced nutrients is a great company...i go organic...worm castings..for my veg since my soil has nutes...and im growing autoflowering plants..they flower on their own in 3-4 weeks from seed..so veg nutes isnt needed anyways.then i finish them off with AN big bud.theres a few good options out there.

Wow man, if you were trying to grow shrooms I'd have to applaud! Keep it simple starting out and you'll have results you'll be happy with! Happy growing!

Well with college starting I haven't been on to update lately. Its been about 4 weeks since I planted. The one originally planted in Scotts died about a week ago. I went out and bought a sesame street "my first tomato mini greenhouse" with little peat discs that expand when you add water to start some more seeds. I started 4 more seeds. Two with superthrive from germination and two with distilled water only. The superthrive were ready to transplant to some plastic cups within 3 days and I transplanted them this morning (3 days later) to large pots. One is a 2 gallon smart pot, the other is about a 3 gallon reg plastic pot. I put the others in cups today also, but their roots weren't even breaking through the bottom of the germination peat balls. Needless to say I'm officially a fan of Superthrive now.

The original mir gro is now a month old and hasn't put on ANY vertical growth since I transplanted it. It does look healthy to me though and is steadily putting on leaf growth. I added some superthrive when I planted it and decided to switch to a full BMO growth so I watered in some Super Plant Tonic at half strength two weeks ago. I like the small bushyness but I'm a little worried about the zero vertical growth part. The week old transplants are already taller than this one. I haven't pinched the top or anything. Whats up?

be carefull with the peat pellets...they are evil...great for clones..shit for seedlings..i hope you took the netting off it.and i would start them out in smaller containers...its better for the plant to have 1-2 transplant.it needs to develop a strong rootball..which it wont do as well starting out in such a big pot...big pots and seedlings dont work well as it comes to watering either.with the roots being so small its not going to suck up much water...so the water that normally goes right to the roots in the smaller pots...gets sucked up by the roots..then leaves the soil around the roots dry..so the whole pot of soil stays wet,but the roots are not getting water.that can lead to over or under watering.i start mine in paper towels...then i plant into a dixie cup..a dark colored kind so no lights gets through the cup to the roots...then after about 2-3 weeks and a nice rootball is formed.ill either transplant to a 6 quart pot..if its a small strain...or to a 3-5 gallon pot if its a big strain

maybe the one that isint growing is just shocked from the transplant i had one stay about the same hight for about 2 months then in a 2 week time it trippled in size.

Well i failed to update weekly like I had hoped but oh well. All my plants have survived and they're all females!! I've been watering them twice a week due to the fact that its been so hot in the utility closet. They seem to be doing good aside from some yellow tips towards the top, which I assume is from overheating. Its officially been two months so I'm going to start flowering. Wish me luck. I'll post some more pics if anyone cares to see them

well...i THOUGHT they were all females. 3 of the 4 turned out to be males so I just slaughtered them Oh well, the biggest, healthiest looking one is the female so I should still end up with a good amount of bud. I'm either getting feminized seeds or clones next time for sure. The blood of the innocent is on my hands...
