My first grow (closet grow)

Hey everyone,

Im going to be starting my first grow and wanted to see what you all think. I have read through many threads and done some general research and this is what I came up with:

I have a closet about 2ft x 2ft x 6ft tall. I dont want to paint so I thought I would get some spray adhesive and put up an emergency blanket, will this work?

Im not sure how im going to set it up but Im going to mount my lights to a board and use the pole in the closet to be able to adjust them up and down.

Since this is a low budget/experimental grow (its my fist time) Im going to use cfl's. I was thinking about 3 46? watt 6500K and 1 2700K for veg ( I read somewhere on here that the plant will benefit from the fuller spectrum) How does this sound?

I dont know what kind of plant I'll be growing, a friend gave me some seeds from one of his plants but said he doesnt remeber which one. Im hoping a can fit two plants in my grow area. Im going to put the seeds to germ tonight and put together my grow room tomorrow (finally a day off )

After germ I want to put the seeds directly into 3gal pots (i heard plastic is the best, is that right?)

Im not sure about soil but im thinking a mixture of 75% organic mg and 25% perlite. how does that sound?

Im not sure about nutes but I should have a couple of weeks to do some more research on that.

Im going to start a grow journal with lots of pics.

I have a similar grow going right now....my first. The best advice I can give is to research everything you can BEFORE you start. Read up on CFL's. Your grow box is as big as mine, I have two bagseed plants going on two weeks in flower and they are huge. remember that when you switch to 12/12 to flower, your plants will double in size, so take that into consideration. sounds like you are doing a budget grow so don't expect much your first time. I can see already that some of my mistakes are going to cost me on my yeild. Miracle grow, for instance, was probably a bad idea. Most important...be patient. Hope this helped and good luck.

That would be ok lighting for veg, you would want more in flower with the spectrum shift. I would advise you to actually play around with different ways to mount your lights long before you germinate. Get them up there and imagine needing to raise and reposition them. Think about how you will get a sidelight in a specific spot if you don't have anything to clamp it to right there.

It's a pain to have a jungle of plants and then realize you need to make some major changes in how the lights are set up.

Good luck with your grow. I think you will need to make some adjustments with your lighting. IMO, for your growspace, 3 x 42w 6500K sounds a little on the low side. I would go with at least 4. When you go to 12/12, 2700K is correct, but you will need at least 4 x 42W. Everything else sounds good to me,but just like Illegal Smile says, you need to get your shit ready BEFORE your plants go in so you don`t have to disturb them too much.

Thanks for the advice. I have read about a lot of people not having enough light. I will definitely put more light in my space. will my plant benefit more from having ONLY 6500K for veg and ONLY 2700K for flower or would it be better to put in at least one bulb of the other spectrum?

Im also not sure about soil. I know that ocean forest is supposed to be one of the best but I need something I can pick up at a local store.

Alot of people have different opinions on that. I personally use 6500k for veg & 2700k for flower.Some people say that it is better to have a mix when you flower, but I personally don`t mix. As for soil,there is a wealth of information on this site about everything.

Okay, I went to the store today and bought all of the stuff I need. I bought some jungle growth and some perlite to mix together so I hope that will work. Also I could only get 26W cfl's so I bought 6 of them 6500K, do I need more?

also, there is a space at the top of the door that will probably let in a little light, should I find a way to block that? Does that plant need 100% dark during its night cycle?
