My Favorite Strain This Year And Why

On the average I harvest 2 plants a week with my perpetual grow. Although I clone 75% of my ladies I still end up buying quite a few different strains via Attitude. I try all of them and clone and re-grow the best of them. The best this year has been Critical Sensi Star from Delicious Seeds. I was told that all the Delicious line with "Critical" in the name had orange-bud tendencies. The CSS has been far and away the best of the bunch. She is naturally short and bushy so I have just to FIM them the third week in dirt to get a plant finishing around 40 inches with multiple top colas. After 5 weeks flowering the colas are huge and sticky as I watch the pistils turn from white to orange. At 6 weeks flowering the pistils are 50% orange and that's where I harvest. Because of it bushy nature the strain is tailor-made to be re-grown. Every CSS I have re-grown this year has yielded 125-175% of the first harvest. After the initial harvest they get 3 weeks to re-veg then 5-6 weeks re-flowering. Unlike many, the CSS grows huge nugs the second time around. Cloning is a breeze too. 7-8 days after hitting the dome I have lots of little white roots peeking out of my jiffy cubes. This strain has everything I need -- small, fast, easy to clone and re-grow. And a great yield for a 40 inch plant. BigSteve.

Sounds awesome.....hate to go off topic here but you harvest based on pistil colour? Sound like you could get more outof them if you let them go longer...check the trichomes.... am growing delicious northern lights blue, lovely plant, definitely going to try more delicious ness! Which other strains did you grow? im interested to hear what the CSS was up against :-P

".....hate to go off topic here but you harvest based on pistil colour? Sound like you could get more outof them if you let them go longer...check the trichomes.... " Good point. However, I've grown the strain often enough to know what the tris look like based on pistil color. I don't need the 'scope if I already know that 50% orange pistils = about 50% milky tris. And the buzz is special. Reminds me of when I first discovered vicodin. BigSteve. PS -- I'm guessing I tried 25-30 different strains to make the CSS my choice.

U dont always need trichs after a while a good skilled grower can look at his plants and tell by the swell of bud size and color when to harvest I dont look at trichs till the last week before harvest really ...and I usually let my plants go for a min of 8 weeks

Nice thread Big Steve :-). I would have to go with Road Kill Unicorn by Bodhi. The genetics are Purple Unicorn ( Chem D x Blackberrywidow ) x Snow lotus ( Afgooey x Blockhead). I was blessed with the full on Chem D phenotype. That particular phenotype finished in under 8 weeks and that's from the day the pistils began to form. The smell was a putrid barnyard smell so odor control imperative. The flowers were dense but you still could press into it. There was an explosion in your mouth which translated to an alternating assertive and clean ( one of the cleanest chems I have ever experienced) chem followed by some sweetness and some tartness. Extremely strong almost instantaneous hit to your naugen and the high travels down your body but not in a rapid fashion. I smoked it several times a week straight without dabbling in our other strains and no noted tolerance buildup. An amazing yielder in a short time frame. Once you got past the red hairy hairs you can admire the matted crystal formation. The experience lasts for an easy 2.5 hours plus. Eventhough it is extremely potent it was quite soothing to the throat. Lightweights and heavy weights should be weary because if you cannot determine your ceiling with that strain you will get mowed down by RKU. Btw I really love CSS by Delicious Seeds. That is a favorite of ours and Cheese Candy auto and photoperiod version.

I would have to say my favorite this year has been Chocolope Kush by DNA. Sprouted 2 beans. one was sativa dominant that I have finished (easy to clone). It was very stinky, dense. It stretched like a SOB so watch that. Thought I was gonna end up with a bunch of small buds, however after topping a few times, the main colas were very large and all the usual popcorn was dense as hell nuggets. VERY tasty, great high.

I have another indica dom CK flowering now, very short, bushy, easy to train but VERY difficult to clone.
