Mushrooms and fungus gnats, OH MY!

So I recently was blessed with an infestation of what I think are fungus gnats. Aside from them pissing me off I think that they may tend to spawn mushrooms. Does anybody know about this? What causes mushrooms to grow in clean soil? I sterilized it before the grow and this has never happened. Do they just spontaniously generate? Is the humidity too high. And what can I use besides fly strips to get rid of these bastards?? any help would be grand.

Diatomaceous earth or sand for the topsoil will stop the adults from anymore egg laying. The best way to get ride of the fungus gnats are with predatory nematodes (ask your grow shop if they carry it). It isn't a bad thing that their are mushrooms in your soil.... it means its really fertile soil, so just pick them out as you see them

it sounds like your soil is staying too moist. Let the soil completely dry before watering. What soil, how often do you water?
