Im in the middle of building myself a small grow room. Im looking to grow 3 or 4 plants at a time but want as bigger yields I can get without having to use HPS lights.

Ive ssen on ebay 200w and 250w envirolights which seem pretty good. I was planning on having one or two above the plants and another one hanging down the middle as a vertical grow type thing with the plants placed around the light.

Any ideas what would work best?

I'd stick with the smaller bulbs, only because they are a lot cheaper.

Go to Wal-Mart and get everything. For veg use the GE 6500K daylight bulbs in the blue 2-packs. You can get a 6-pack of these for $20. 26 watts each. This should be plenty to veg 6-8 little guys to about 6-8 inches in height. Remember you'll be throwing half of them away (males).

When you switch to flower, you'll want to get two 4-packs of Great Value soft white CFLs, 23 watts each. Another $20. Hang these from the top. Grab a third 4-pack (+$10) and use these between them. I don't even mess with them on the side, though. No room... I just have 8 hanging from the top and can get 3 oz from 3 plants in my bagseed rubbermaid grows.

The thing to keep in mind is not the wattage but the lumens. It has also been my experience that you are typically better off with one light with a lot of lumens as opposed to multiple lights with the same total lumens. But cost is always an issue so do whatever you can and start growing!

Best of luck,

i person would say use both get a couple of big ones and some small ones for side lighting so that plant can absorb it all up :) good luck and happy growing

get a mix the better ones for the top and the weaker ones for the bottom , try mixing them with CFLs if your not using CFLs already

Thats what I'm experimenting with next - got 3 cfls for sidelights and a 125-watt growlamp cfl, it'll be interesting to see the results!
