Mother of All Questions

I started my plants in 4" rockwool cubes and recently put my mothers in 8" high pots in an ebb & flow system. There is about 4" of hydroton in the bottom of the pots and my question is how high should my flood level be? Does the water have to reach the rockwool or will the roots get enough water through the hydroton? Thanks!

I've never done hydro, so I don't have an answer for you. I'd be careful asking a hydro question in newbie central. Watch for a response from someone who has at least 4 bubbles of rep for a solid answer. You might also want to post your question in general mj growing to scare up some responses. Most growers that respond here are soil junkies ;)
