This is more a way for me to vent, than anything else. I really need to vent.
I just spent 4 months on my first grow. One AK-48 plant. Everything done by the book right up to harvest. The buds were beautiful. I think it's yield would have been a couple of ounces of cured.
Four months, of twice daily care and commitment, and then complete and utter failure, two days after harvest. I treated them like real, live, human babies. Nothing but the best of everything. I spared no expense.
I spent 5 hours trimming, fifteen, plump, amber colas, and hung them to dry. Three days into the dry, my condo was infested with %$^&*!# bird mites from a family of barn swallows on my deck. My first thought was "omg I need to let an exterminator in here, and he's going to want to spray everywhere!!!"
There was no time to find an alternate drying area. My place is very small, and there was nowhere to hide the buds.
In a panic, I took the buds down, dismantled, and cleaned all evidence of my setup, and at 3:00am proceeded with pruning the stalks, to jar the buds. The exterminator was only 5 hours from arrival.
NEVER JAR THE BUDS AFTER ONLY 3 DAYS OF DRYING!!! I even burped them every few hours. The buds felt crispy on the outside, so I thought I'd be safe in starting the cure.
Within 24 hours, the buds smelled like ammonia and vinegar. Iso hash was the only viable solution, but I just don't like the idea of using iso on something I'm going to inhale. I didn't trust bubble hash because of the mold.
Learn from me. Bud needs at least 5-7 days drying time before curing. Anything less, and you could lose it all before you even know what's happening. Devastating.
What I'm realizing is that growing, harvesting, and curing weed is not a simple undertaking. The number of potential problems that can occur at any stage makes me marvel that anyone can grow weed at all. The things I read about mold spores, makes me wonder if I should even try again.
I just don't think I'm smart enough to grow my own.
These are the stages of grief I've experienced so far.....I may need to seek counseling.....
F*CK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
