mmj patient first time grow need help!
Hello I am new to this forum but have been reading its threads for years. Now that my state finaly aproved mmj i have recievied my mmj card. The thing is right now in my state evan though the mmj bill past the govner has gone against the will of the people and put a stop on the despenceraries and took the matter to court because of the whole mess with the feds... bla bla bla..(meaning it will take a year or more for this to be setteled). So here I am legal to smoke and grow and since there are no dispebcereraries I have decided to grow. Here is problem I have never grown before, the shed I have to grow in is not ventelated well (the only ventelation is with two doggy doors, one leading inside and one leading out)and I have a very low budget since I am currently a full time student. I have about a $200 budget for my grow room and would like advice on how I may grow succesfully and without too much blunders. I have recently ordered my beans from attitude (auto flower bubaliccies from Nirvana and a free blue widdow#1 from UFO)and am waiting for them to come. So my questions are: what equiptment will i need that is within my budget, how/where should I grow them (pictures of my shed will be atached if i can figure it out, damn uploader keeps loading and dosent seem to work), how will i ventelate, where i can get equipment for cheap, and any other advice will be welcomed with my thanks.

200 isnt much of a budget, hydro will be too expensive.

So to keep it simple you need

Soil
Containters
Lighting
Ventilation
Timer

Its an auto, so u shouldnt need too much nutes, can prob get away with high phos bat guano and the soil should do the rest.

If you look on craigslist or ebay you can prob find a used hps 400 watt setup, this is the most important part, and you are going to want it over other lighting.

You can use a quiet fan for exhaust, it will pull in fresh air.

Get any 2 gallon containers and a good soil like FoxFarm will work well.

Also a timer can b obtained from walmart.

What are temps in shed normally? Size of shed?

ie... new grower ... no use in being mean about it - thats what this forum is for.... rest assured I have grown buds for under two hundred more than once - probally will again .... check my journal for some ideas on the cheap and good luck .


p.s. my last grow was under 100 dollars btw......

Thanks to you who have been nice and thanks for your advice. Sorry about the spelling I did not know I would be graded. The shed is about 8ft by 8ft and the temp is usualy hot since I live in az. I am thinking about getting a squirl fan for ventilation. another prob I face is that there are alot of shelfs and shit so the shed is not empty but I have to use it as my grow room because I live with my grand parents and they said thats the only place I could use.

Do I need a ballast? I was hoping I could just make my own reflector and screw in the bulb in a hanging bulb fixture or somthing.

idk man...i think on a budget grow, if you have just some basic electrical knowledge getting a few socket splitters, and some smaller cfl's you would get away much cheaper, and after alot of LST to your plants...youd be happy with the outcome. im willing to bet that you could get 6 or 8 cfls, and socket splitters use some pop cans as reflectors...150-175 bucks total. then add some soil, and pots.

I heard that floresents are only good for the seeding stage and not the flowering. How about some metal halide (mh) or high pressure sodium (hps) bulbs and a home made reflector? could I just screw them into a socket or would I need a Ballast?

1st problem you are going to have is summer heat. in Az. If you're in an area where daily temps exceed 100 & the shed temps top 95 to 100 consistently without any means of cooling (If you have to purchase cooling then your budget is shot), then you should save your money, and stop now with the shed idea. But if the shed tops out at around 90 then you have a chance. Heat will also be a factor in your lighting choice.

2nd is ventilation, you will have to get some fresh air into this shed area.

Let us know about your temps and we can go from there.

Well let's start here,....hello fellow RI'r,lol

I' in east greenwich so if you need hands on help, don't fret.

You have a decent size space to work with. If I could suggest something.

In order for this to be worth the time, effort and $, the $200 will be a good start but you'll need more. With the $200 though, we can get you started with the veg process and you'll need to save another $300 or so for the flowering side of it but after that, you'll be good to grow.

Hydro is far cheaper than soil, not sure why the poster above stated otherwise. My 4 bucket hydro systems cost about $65 to set up and then there's no buying dirt at $22 a bag, from there on out. Let me know if you want som e help bud.

Ya heat is gonna be a big issue for you, I would just save up some money and do it right the first time.

Would you be able to grow outdoors? It is much cheaper to grow outdoors, and depending where you live it is possible to grow very high quality medicine outside. It's the perfect time to plant clones or seedlings in the west right now. An outdoor grow will allow you some time to save for an indoor garden, while supplying you with the largest weight possible. Much larger harvests come from plants grown outdoors. Good luck and much respect!

the start up costs for a soil grow is cheaper than buying a hydro set up. you are right though that in the long run, you save money on soil. However, i would not reccomend you (original poster) try your first grow with a hydro system. You need quite a bit of experience and plant knowlege to grow successfully with hydroponics. Soil is a very forgiving medium, cheap and easy to grow with. I suggest you start with soil just for ease of use. Much respect!

Couldn't disagree more. Hydro allows you to watch everything. With soil , you grow blind. Nothing is more forgiving than throwing out the water and replacing it. Once you sway the ph in a soil plant, it's a huge PITA to get it back. Shit, just testing for it is a PITA,lol

I don't want to start a hydro/soil debate on your thread. If you are interested in hydro, again, I'm local and I teach lots of folks, no issue taking on one more.

I dont think I can grow outdoors because my fence is less the 10ft high which the law of my state says is the size you need to grow outdoors legally. My grandma's idea is to buy a used swamp cooler that is mobile and not that big. As far as the the air ventilation she says it is easy to set up the door as the vent from outside and the use the right fans. Can you give me any ideas how to do this? I personaly was thinking of a squirl fan. I recently watched a video on the net called something like "Mr. Greens How to grow chronic" and he used hydroponics and made his own set up. from watching the vedieo I think I might be able to do that method without spending too much and if i get in trouble my grandma can save me (she has a green thumb). as far as temp goes out side in my town this time of year it easly reaches 110 F. Inside the shed I would say that at most the temp would rise to a maximum of about 90degrees. I think I might be able to cut a hole in the door and put up a vent grate and with a swamp coller and a few diffrent types of fans I think I could get away with the heat. Now heres the question: should I try my luck with a home made hydro system or just use soil and nutes. I plan on seperating the germenatination room from the flower room with some black plastic.

P.S. just got a book called "Marijuana Horticulture the indoor/outdoor medical grower's bible" is this a good how to book for my situation.
